Their research-based programs work very well, and it is fulfilling to see the the children improve in such a short amount of time.

During my time at Lindamood-Bell, the bad outweighed the good (by a lot). The bad included: -Gross power dynamics within and between the different employees (consultants, ACD, CD, etc). You won't build friendships with those above you; they make it known that they are superior to you and hardly ever talk to clinicians. They follow a strict pyramid-like structure when it comes to those in power. -Poor treatment of clinicians. They will treat you like you are easily replaceable, never acknowledging the mental and emotional labor that goes into being with kids for 8+ hours/day. When you do something right, it will not be acknowledged. When you do something wrong (no matter how small), it will always be acknowledged. -Overall unorganized. You will hardly ever have the supposed "weekly" meetings (that take up 30 minutes of your allotted one-hour lunch break), yet still be expected to be in the loop of all that is happening, whether it be child-specific, family-specific, etc. You get less breaks than stated during the training, and you will often get asked to stay later or come in earlier than your assigned shift completely last-minute. -Needless day-to-day drama. There is dramatization of very minuscule problems. These problems are addressed by those in power, and then fixed by those beneath. -Lack of cleanliness within the session rooms. None of the resources ever get cleaned, so when kids get sick, clinicians will often get sick as well.

It’s great to try to help people, but…

They’re so set on their particular philosophical style, but realistically, it cannot be one size fits all. Clinicians who work there are NOT experts; they only get two weeks of training. And the sessions are extremely tight, with back-to-back students (just five minutes between each, leaving no time to prepare for the next one and no chance for clinicians to catch a breath). Lessons take place in cramped, mostly shared spaces, so everyone tends to be over-stressed. There’s no way that what is taught there, and the environment in which it’s taught, is worth what they’re charging families. Not to mention that the staff break room is like the size of a closet, and even in that tight space, many people just aren’t very friendly and hardly acknowledge your presence.

Our initial training is designed to prepare clinicians to begin working one-to-one with students using our unique approach.
