-> Very high turnover even by nonprofit standards. Not uncommon for people to leave once they hit their 1yr anniversary. -> On a few occasions employees have been pushed out with minimal warning. -> The org restructures often, sometimes multiple times a year. Ongoing shifting of employee roles and responsibilities, management's expectations and project deadlines makes it tough to keep your head above water. -> With power and decision making concentrated at the top, the great majority of employees have limited opportunities for critical thinking/personal development/professional growth. -> Management communicates in a way that often comes off as oblivious and at other times can feel like gaslighting. This has created a lack of trust in management which has created a culture of gossip. -> Absent established cultural norms, policies, or procedures decision making at the top can often feel arbitrary, rash, or unfair. -> Lack of management experience among some members of the leadership team has a tangible impact on the organization. -> Some leaders are immodest in their approach. Ex: Some employees have had the experience of managers presenting employee ideas as their own. -> Well .. as expected-nonprofit pay & benefits (no designated sick time) & but also an unsustainable workload to boot. You will receive emails after hours and on weekends.You will feel stressed at work and you will find it hard to disconnect when at home.
