Depends on which Vice President your under. - werkgeversreview Senior Applications Engineer bij Maxim Integrated

Pluspunten

Very good pay for salaried individuals. Fair pay raises in this day and age, excellent bonus pool when the company does well. Maxim is a foward looking company, planning years ahead to stay profitable. Senior management seems to have alignment and vision. Competive benefits balanced with other "semiconductor" companies but not businesses across the board.

Minpunten

Not family friendly. 24 hours a year for sickness, family illness or children issues. After that your written up for attendance issues (hourly employees). With compressed shifts being 12 hours long, that equals 2 days a year before attendance is at issue. Salaried employees fair much better and do not risk being laid off because they have poor health or a sickly family member. Depending which Vice President your under, you will ALWAYS feel 1 day away from being laid off. Leadership by fear and intimidation vs. A VP who leads by example.

Pluspunten

Working at Maxim was challenging and rewarding. Benefits are in line or ahead of the curve in pay, bonus pool, stock options as well as an employee stock purchase plan. The company has changed helm in the past several years, and it shows with the new management style. All top executives are in line with aggressive growth and a keen eye on the future no matter what the cost.

Minpunten

With any new management there are always pitfalls. Management by fear, quarterly assessments, bell curved annual reviews (that even Maxim's own HR department states unfairly trap managers into picking a subordinate to be the "failure" employee on the curve for that year). Foreign Vice Presidents that can't communicate well because they never bothered to properly learn the English language. (Everyone in meetings - listening - catches every third word). It's hard to be taken seriously if you can't properly communicate, and make absolutely no effort at trying to improve your own skills. Very few other cons at Maxim that bothered me other than the usual "Pet Employees" that management seems to protect and advance unfairly. This is no different than any other large company.
