My team was wonderful to work with and I grew a lot

Minpunten

I was emotionally abused by my former manager for years before they were asked to leave for treating people terribly. I worked there for over 5 years before I was laid off, along with another large group of employees. Every year benefits and pto was slashed. Employees complained for years about the health insurance options, and the execs did nothing even when provided with alternatives. This place likes to pretend that they are fun and agile, but really it's deluded and messy. The majority of the good reviews you read here will be from new hires, the HR team, or sourced by the HR team when they notice they've gotten a bad review.

Pluspunten

Mediavine invests in its employees and provides plenty of opportunities to develop new skills. Leadership has been making a noticeable effort to support employees while encouraging open communication and feedback. Colleagues are always willing to share knowledge, and there's a genuine sense of wanting to see clients as well as the company succeed.

Minpunten

Like any company, there can be challenges and shifts in priorities as the industry changes. This has impacted some colleagues, which is never easy, but the company has handled it with respect and care.

Pluspunten

The people I worked with on a day-to-day basis were wholly wonderful. There was a real feeling of community and the work felt fulfilling.

Minpunten

There is a real problem with upper management. It seems like nobody really knows what the company is doing long-term, and right now it seems like they're really flailing, trying to survive after some disastrous decisions. For example, there was a push to build products beyond the core idea of the company, like Wordpress plugins and themes. This lack of focus came to the forefront when we fully dropped them after years of work had been done. Then, when work was being done on a core feature of the company, the publisher and internal dashboard, the teams were forced to launch before the product was anywhere close to being ready, frustrating the publishers that were being prompted to start using it. None of this was helped by the fact that they laid off the entire QA team, so the engineers were not able to get feedback from people who really knew how to test software, not just from employees mentioning when something was wrong or felt off. Additionally to this, it really felt like the C-suite was incredibly out-of-touch with what mattered to their employees.
