Pluspunten
The biggest thing to know about Medium is that in many ways, it's a completely different company than it was 5 years ago (or even 2 years ago). The current leadership runs the business in a drastically different way than founding leadership did. Speaking to employees who've been around for 5 or 10 years, the current iteration of the company is essentially a completely different org than it used to be. I would not have been successful in the previous iterations of the company, which was rife with pivots, last-minute canceled projects, ill-considered acquisitions, and black-box vibes. My favorite thing about working for Medium is the mission -- most folks at the company truly believe in the value of human-centric storytelling. Especially during a time of media & tech layoffs, it's inspiring to see such a mission-focused company doing well enough that they're actively hiring!
Minpunten
The company was 250 people at one time; now it's just 80. Resources are spread extremely thin, and a lot of very cool projects can't get done because there aren't enough people to do them. The company is still learning how to best function as a completely remote business, and sometimes there are issues with accountability at all levels. But leadership is wide open to feedback, and the culture is pretty great. Folks are empowered to speak up and feel heard.
