Pluspunten
The pay wasn't bad; it wasn't what I was making at my last job, but it was close enough to make it work. Overtime was also readily available. The ability to get trained on new equipment was pretty easy.
Minpunten
From the outset, Michaels misled me. Although I applied for a full-time, year-round position, they hired me for a seasonal job without disclosing the duration of my employment. They informed me of my layoff only two weeks before Thanksgiving, providing no prior warning or severance pay. The paperwork I received needed to be completed, necessitating corrections, and accessing my W2 required contacting corporate HR in Texas to email it to me. However, when attempting to access it, the system rejected me, citing me as an inactive employee with no work history. During orientation, an HR representative scolded me, neglected to assist English-speaking employees adequately and prioritizing Spanish-speaking ones. Despite this, I aided several coworkers in navigating the system, drawing from my previous experience with Workday. On the warehouse floor, I quickly realized the job was chaotic. Management played favorites, leading to disorganization and potentially hazardous situations. There were instances where management's lack of attention nearly caused accidents with machinery, yet instead of acknowledging fault, they reprimanded employees. Although the shift was scheduled until 11 pm, we were frequently informed after 10:30 pm that we needed to work until 1-2 am to complete tasks. Refusal to stay resulted in warnings of consequences from our immediate supervisors, and receiving a write-up the next day was almost guaranteed. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this company or job. Despite the friendships formed, I regret that my colleagues haven't left yet.
