Pluspunten
- Customer Service Priority, while some people dread this, it is the initial reason why I went to work at Micro Center. I LOVE to help people and getting that satisfied old lady warms my heart every time. The fact that Micro Center uses minimal advertisement and that our customer base is heavily relied upon by word of mouth shows testament that were are not your average retailer. - Management are people! In my particular store, all of my management are actual people who are understanding and are there for you. They will push you to do better not because they got nothing better to do, but so you can make more money in the long run. If you get into a rut, most of the time they understand and work with you. When I was overwhelmed with life as I work a second job in the family company and doing a project on the side, they were kind enough to allow me a more stable schedule until I was able to get all my affairs under control. - General Manager of my store is one of the best things about it. When it's time for fun, it is fun time, when it is time for work, it's work time. He works extra days if coverage is needed, not afraid to pull extra weight and is genuine. - That Employee discount is totes nice, especially with those replacement plans. - If you work hard, you can be rewarded. I'll admit, I'm one of the more recognized figures at my store due to my personality and work ethic, but at the same time I am not given special treatment. I had a lot of tardies and was given a final notice to clean up my act and I did since I like working there. Too get back on point, I work my butt off to get stuff done and make money, and it has been noticed. If you do fine, you make money, if you go the extra mile, the managers notice which makes moving to nicer departments easier. My advice is try to be the biggest fish in your pond with what you do and not be show offy about it. - Benefits, very competitive and cover great things. Except the Eye, not a fan of it, but it is at least LOW cost.

- Co-Workers, in a perfect word, you have the best co-workers. This ain't no perfect world though. Most of the co-workers I've worked beside are very fun people who are knowledgeable in all things tech. There are times when you get some of THOSE kind of people. My store doesn't usually try to weed those people out as they believe in second, third, or four chances (which is a plus for me), but sometimes can have a negative impact on fellow co-workers. The good and bad even it out and we are dealing with retail after all. All in all, I feel neutral about it, but there is no neutral zone XD - Customers, I wanted to put this in the neutral and don't get me wrong, there are LOTS of GREAT customers, but there are the handful that make sales. . . "fun". Had some customers that come in for the sole purpose of talking a Sales Associate's ear off without purchasing anything, and KNOW that they are commission based. Then there are the weed heads, the ignorant old farts that refuse to listen to the fact that their solution is to replace their dated tech because nothing supports it and yell at you that it is unfair that they are forced to upgrade, and the tin-foil hats. Though the last ones make great tales to tell around the camp fire XD - Commission, another item that I feel a bit more neutral about. In certain areas of the store, Front End (CSR, Warehouse), General Sales, and occasionally Apple if Apple has nothing good on the horizon, the pay can be ehhhhhhhh. As I mentioned earlier, I work two jobs and if I didn't have my job with the family business, I would have been looking for a better paying job when I was a CSR, Warehouse, & General Sales. I was paid pretty low when working the Front End services, but the sales of Warranties helped a lot. General Sales was a great money boost, but still averaged around 11ish a hour (all the good and bad days put together). Currently in the Build Your Own department and already having a easier time with work and making a nicer sum of money with great spiffs (bonus pay) and being around beautiful computer parts! While nicer, there are still better paying jobs but I am currently satisfied where I am. - Communication, this is what I feel is the Achilles Heel of Micro Center, most of the time the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. If we get a hot item in, most of us don't know it until it shows up in a shipment, and only if your co-workers mention it to you if you didn't help stock the morning shipment. I tried to help solve this when I worked with phones by sending my department when a new phone came in and kept in communication with my buyer. If I did not do that, most of my fellow associates would be clueless of what was going on. If you have to reach out all the time when your main purpose to sell, I feel that communications need to be improved. - Work schedule, this is retail, you work crazy hours. Such is life. - Internal Tech, for a computer store, a lot of our stuff is dated. Customers often make jokes when we have stuff go down or see some of the stuff we are using. Not pointing fingers or making blame, mostly due to the cost of upgrading the equipment and software is quite steep in a low margin business. Kudos to the techs that make it and keep it working!
