- They make you do labour that a construction team would normally do (Store foam boards glued at height over 12-13 feet + Moving fixtures of the entire store + uplifting and dismantling Back room fixture racks that was put together by a team before the company opened and now YOU have to do their job and reconstruct it yourself and then you get questioned why did you need an extra person to help you hammer things and lift large amounts of wood and metal + dismantling and deconstructing front store 2 metre fixtures) none of which is mentioned in your job description. - Muscle pain, with the indecent, inconsiderate labour they make you do, get ready to have body muscle pain, and no, they do not care about the work they’re asking you to do. - they cheap out on everything (we get paid commission on Friday’s, they pulled out our commission on Wednesday, therefore our months work wasn’t paid, and staff were looking forward to it, they stopped the commission program for months and it affected staff morale. They took away incentives, we would have a photo/video biweekly competition where the company basically used your work for their social media if it was good (something you pay highly for if you hired a social media marketing team) and awarded you $50 for it, we are least had that running for a long time but they took away that too. Left all stores with no commission, high sale goals. - The Department that makes Promotions truly is inadequate and the team that allows POS’s to work smoothly are another topic on its own, almost EVERY promotion has an issue or doesn’t work or came with a set of rules that we didn’t know until a customer stood infront of us yelling ‘this is false advertising’ - They’ll give you a tough deadline (like change your ENTIRE store in 1 month, turn EVERY fixture within that month, Rebuild your backroom as well, relocate all your walls, rearrange your entire drawers in your cash area, redo you cabinets according to new Management ALL IN ONE MONTH - and you think it ends there? They knew this was a long and hard task, moving everything is not a joke as it involving shelving the store and relocation poles, removing all items and shifting them, plus dealing with shipments of 3 skids per week, dealing with sudden new merching standards that was not told all in one to us but in bits an pieces, working on the categories then saying ‘but it’s not to standards’ when they actually never even let us know the standards that fast, giving you promotions and things to print in your store while you completed this 1 month deadline, giving you trackers to fill during it for inventory, having you watch an expiry tracker for a future promotion, promotions end up not working you have to submit a ticket to IT to resolve it. Not giving a 3rd pos made for documents for 3-4 months, which made your main POS’s run extremely slow when cashing customers, having to fix the POS during this 1 month deadline, having to fix the 3rd POS on your own because your area managers couldn’t and IT didn’t care + relocating and shifting your POS with all its wiring because after 4 years of running they finally said ‘people can steal if your main POS is on one end, so now shift to another’ ALL IN ONE MONTH. Yes. All of this, in 1 month, something new every week taking us away from the deadline. - The area manager can question your staff as to ‘why are they so positive when your store isn’t done’ stressing out the staff with ‘why are you positive, i don’t think your store will be done by the looks of it’ 2 WEEKS INTO THE DEADLINE, staff retaliating and asking ‘do you want us to stress and see us get stressed? Do you want to see us crying?’. Some of my staff had to walk away from the aggravating attitude just to go back and focus on work instead of being in the negativity. - Unappreciative, you can have 100 weeks of a good store but 1 week of a sudden bad store because of all they piled on us and suddenly the Area manager along with another store manager believe they can pass jokes about your store on a public groupchat where other stores can see your 1 week mishap, called it constructive criticism so that other stores don’t do the same but there was never constructive criticism just ‘lol this store hahahaha HQ shouldn’t visit them, my feeling is never wrong lol’ for other stores to know MY stores business. Imagine that. - other store managers can attack you and your Area manager will not intervene or take up for you or ask them to stop. YES. Instead, ‘i don’t have time for this sh*t’ attitude comes across incase you complain that this isn’t right. No remorse, no professionalism. - Area manager helped my store and often sacrificed herself for the company working 12-13 hours a day, even on off days and sick days to help the store, but her sacrifice is HER problem, it is not something you use to get frustrated at others, vent to others and ignore your professionalism just because your tired. Expect this company to believe you need to dedicate your entire life to your store, expect that they expect you to live in your store. During a visit, the AM can talk behind your back to your staff ‘your store is a mess in july and your manager is asking me for vacation in September? Where is her ownership? And she’s asking for a vacations when her store is a mess?’ Mind you more store was a mess this ONE time she has visited compared to the 4 years I’ve been in This company when it was perfect, I’ve scored the highest in my district in every evaluation, never took vacations at all this year due to English amounts of priorities at work since MARCH, was awarded 2 times in the annual award ceremony, won many competitions by always participating and making her district look nice by participating, my store had been top 10 in 2 categories of sales due to my supervision and innovative ideas for months, weighed in meetings to help for training documents on my DAYS OFF. I had wanted to take stress off of my area manager so i offered to make her excel/inventory sheets for her district, in addition make her a follow up sheet for our district full of deadline and groupchat needs, i listened when she needed to vent and uplifted her to show her she’s appreciated and THIS IS WHAT I GET?. Imagine, a high achiever being reduced so easily over 1 week of a slip up. I was even considered for an Area manager position and relocating to a CLASS A busy store due to my skills because THEY KNEW how good i was. And that’s how they treat a loyal, hard working individual? Horrible. - They tell staff they can fire anyone and have been firing people a lot, even if an associate is weighed down, they’ll say they can fire them even though they’ve been loyal and hard working all along. - The fridge leaks and even the guy who comes to fix everything says that’s not his to fix. - the POS don’t work, no one fixes it - they do not consider your off days, instead of posting updates in a groupchat with every working staff member, they will post it in a store manager groupchat where you have to understand and relay it to your staff ON YOUR OFF DAYS. - new management + HQ are horrible, they have come from China and expect Canada to work like China and make all of Canada flip their stores in 1 month, they do not give a clear layout or direction and make you make changes on the go and then tell you No, let’s change it to something else now. They didn’t have a meeting and discuss all the changes they wanted in one go. In 2 months they made us flip our store MANY TIMES, gave standards in bits and pieces, staff were getting confused and overwhelmed with new info and then new promotions. - Store managers are not paid over time, if you stay back to help your store over 40 hours, you are not paid because you are on a contract. - your only form of release is if you find another store manager to vent to - i already know 3 managers that had anxiety attacks, myself included, people had occasional breakdowns, meltdowns - mental health care is NON EXISTENT here, i had to take a personal day off due to mental stress and wrote it in my reasoning, was never questioned about it or no one got back to me about it. - HR will tell you they’re there for you, THEY ARE NOT. All talk, no action. So if you have a complaint, you are NOT saved, keep your head down and pretend your in the 1900’s where you have no voice. - in 4 years i had 7 managers, 6 Area managers, many supervisors who ended up LEAVING, only the recent 6th one has stayed. My FIRST year 3 area managers left, 2 managers left. My SECOND year 1 area manager, 3 managers left, my THIRD year, Covid season, 1 Manager left (they never bothered to ask if i wanted to be manager, hired someone completely incapable and she would rely on me to do ALL MANAGER WORK), that manager left and only then they promoted me but only in NAME, they wanted be to continue being only assistant manager without the pay of a store manager but with all Store manager duties.. i had to keep complaining and voice that it isn’t fair. They lied and said they’d promote me if i showed I’m good in a month, been here 3 years and promoted to asst manager, isn’t that being good enough??? And in 1 month they never got back to me for a pay increase and i did all store manager duties. My pay increase came 3 months after only because the entire district had to have a pay increase due to minimum wage. Even this year 2022 they still haven’t given a pay increase with the increased minimum wage and only are in TALKS about it end of July, not yet announced. To continue in my FOURTH year, 1 area manager left and I’m the manager so i didn’t leave. Please look at the turnover rate and figure out how bad this company is. The person with the best turnover rate was my store because people under me hardly left, i have had the same staff for YEARS. I am a good manager, and i 100% can say this with confidence, but where was the respect and appreciation? - you are continuously meant to be on your phone, sometimes you are sent pdfs on your chat but not on your email, which is a pain. - Your staff can love you, but they will have thoughts of leaving only because of the company. - you can spend a lot of time cleaning the hell out of your store and they’ll deduct marks for the stupidest reasons (dust under a tightly spaced stand, a piece of scotch tape end on your window display) - they tell you old uniforms are disregarded, change their mind to bring it back because they don’t have uniforms to supply, and then take away store marks because staff has the wrong uniform on( well no kidding they threw out the old uniform because THE COMPANY SAID WEAR THE NEW ONES). - imagine all this crap and then you have indecent bothersome customers who can boil your blood, leaving trash, knocking down fixtures, using your Bluetooth speakers to play inappropriate music and run out of the store, fighting with you on the store policy, throwing product back at you because they didn’t like your final sale policy, kids messing up or vandalizing sections you just worked on and on top of that 1 month worth of deadlines that should’ve been 2-3 months worth. - you work 9 hours, get only 30 minutes break, you work 10+ hours, get a 1 hr break. They do not provide snacks and food, in your 30 minute break you use your malls food court to rub up order it, leaving you with just a 15 minute break of stuffing your face quickly. - they want countless of picture at opening and closing just to micromanage you (micromanaging is prevalent in this company) and then change their minds on a new set of pictures they want, then they make a new groupchat for extra new pictures they want just to micromanage you further. - the Hq can rip off the store layout foam boards you put in so much work to get right, they reinstall it and it all falls off because they cheap out on tape they buy from Walmart. And then your foam boards start falling off and dropping down and can potentially hit a customer (Hunter didn’t care, Hunter is the upper management). Then they say, ‘we will order more tape, retape all our mistakes that we made when we ripped out the perfection your staff did’. - when HQ visits you, they walk into your store, into your backroom without a word, you start thinking they are customers that barged into your private space and wanna kick them out simply because THEH NEVER SAY HI OR GREET YOU and they ALL KNOW BASIC ENGLISH TO AT LEAST INTRODUCE THEMSELVES. They will talk to my Chinese staff member, but not to me THE MANAGER, my other staff as well thought that customers were barging in our employee backroom because they don’t say a word to you. ill-mannered and absolutely no decorum. - HQ and upper management are truly not up to par with Canadian behaviours, they do not have class, etiquette, decorum, respect for the workplace at all. - Managers got scared or concerned they’d be fired and message each other privately and we had to have each other’s backs to make sure we helped each other calm down. - complaints are NOT listened to - tyrannical company - People with illnesses and were asked that stress can induce the illness again had to LEAVE. Yup. - some upper management working when sick, crying. - made us on outlet store which drove us crazy, I already sent in resignation letters because we weren’t getting support, and my manager knew she really needed my help through it, so with ny resigning, she did too. And later they promise us the company would get better and for a while it did, and we stayed, and a little time later HERE WE ARE AGAIN, back to abnormalities and horrid company behaviours. - after months of not having vacations and making my family wait just because the stores needed me and my supervision, my family finally knew by july 31 the intense layout transition would end and I’d be free, they gave me way to have august to touch up my store after reworks and in September booked a cruise, after such a long wait and hold up of months not going anywhere with them. Missing family outings, vacations etc because of work. HQ passes a message to my area manager by end of july saying NO ONE IS ALLOWED A VACATION FROM JULY-SEPTEMBER. Allowed? It is my Canadian right by law in any workplace to have my vacations, October - December are busy seasons and we are not allowed on vacations for 3 months straight? We were not even given the opportunity to leave all year round due to endless deadlines.. i refused to refund my cruise because 1) the airline ticket charges refund fees 2). The cruise ticket charges refund fees. Roughly $200-$350 gone on refund fees over a vacation i didn’t get to have and being told last minute when i am and am not allowed to leave? IT IS OUR RIGHT AND NOT WRITTEN IN OUR CONTRACTS when we are not allowed to leave and which months. This is absurd at best. - i was told my vacation might not get approved as it is HQ/ new upper managements approving it because they don’t trust the AM and DM of the company, they may not approve what you want because they made a decision on when you get to go on vacation. - if you are off and are not on your phone, you are judged OR something new isn’t working and your staff are running around confused, so you have to fix things while on your day off. Nice work life balance right? - at end of july hinted at salary raise when the raise should’ve happened as soon as they asked for labour and inconsiderate deadlines. Plus on top of your work, said they will evaluate in October how much pressure you can handle and if your good worker. Like hell, we went through crap for this company and on top they wanna evaluate you? You’re so dead by the end of your shift that you don’t even care to socialize and even care about being evaluated, you might just collapse on your bed, Heaven help your dreams because sleep is the only way you can escape work and even in your dreams you dream about messing up at work (literally staff had dreams about messing up at work too). That’s how much they mess up your mind.
