However, the lack of leadership and constant micro-managing by bosses with no real vision for the future created a toxic work environment. There was little career advancement, and any suggestions for improvement were ignored. For example, I made suggestions to repurpose A/V equipment that was just sitting in storage, collecting dust, by using it for other types of events like music festivals and esports. I also proposed selling these services by packaging them with PR offerings to expand beyond the typical corporate clients in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, which felt too niche. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to bring in additional revenue, but leadership had tunnel vision, and these ideas fell on deaf ears. Furthermore, as someone with an intellectual disability, I often felt outcasted and misunderstood by management. I was treated like an outsider and frequently felt like the character Milton from Office Space, left out and disregarded. This created a discouraging and isolating environment. Ultimately, I was laid off with no clear explanation or communication. The process felt scripted and impersonal, with an executive I’d never met thanking me for my "hard work" despite never making the effort to actually know me or the team. If you're looking for benefits and work-life balance, Notified might suit you, but don’t expect meaningful leadership or opportunities to innovate and grow.
