I've been away from Hitachi Capital for many years now but the absolute disgraceful time I spent there still resonates. I see from the 2020 review nothing has changed. First off, I came into the role as a professional with a lot of experience and with capabilities far beyond what was actually needed. Despite this, I was treated like a child who had to be monitored at every step. Here's a list of all the issues I experienced: 1. Management entirely composed of older women, I had to endure comments that would have been completely inappropriate if they had been made by an older male to a younger female worker 2. Micro management. And I MEAN micro management. Even to the point where I was told I couldn't use company milk for cereal. Constantly monitored with leeway only given to favourites. Total refusal to accept people can be late for reasons outside of their own control - written up for being a few minutes late (completely unreasonable). Some people were even spoke to for taking too long in the toilets. utterly pathetic in my book. 3. Nepotism - Management hire family, one of whom I understand has since been promoted despite more capable people being overlooked. very obvious cliques. An atmosphere of petty tattle-telling, especially among the cliques. One member of staff reported another member of staff's twitter account (utterly pathetic) 4. I was lied to in my interview - told I wouldn't have to speak on the phone much despite this being false. 5. Oppressive atmosphere, largely created by management and associated hangers on (family etc) 6. no room for progression. Pityful wage. Although the job was ridiculously easy so I can sort of understand that part of it. Naturally it was incredibly boring and required very little brain input. 7. working horrible shift patterns. There were a few very nice and capable people there but that certainly doesn't apply to management. Overall I would avoid. the atmosphere in the underwriting was suffocating and it sounds like nothing's changed.

Pluspunten

The hybrid model of 1 day in the office per week allows for great work/ life balance. The holiday buy/ sell up to 5 days. There are good social events that are out on throughout the year like quizzes, meet ups and in office entertainment.

Minpunten

The pay is not competitive at all for grade 2 employees compared to similar businesses in the industry. A lot of management are incompetent, unprofessional and unsupportive. Feedback is not taken seriously a lot of the time and progression up the business is rarely offered. A lack of time to team build and get to know colleagues. The office environment itself is not a great place to work and uninviting. The systems are very outdated and some are unnecessarily hard to use. There are more growth opportunities for managers than anyone else. Training that is delivered on processes is poor and vague sometimes. There is a lack of understanding and support for health related issues, mental health and especially for neurodiverse colleagues.
