My experience as part of Objectivity team was very positive. As with many established companies, Objectivity has fixed set of best practices and processes that might appear as different to some in the silicon valley’s technology landscape. However these processes and practices were developed and refined over years of successful business operations and it “makes sense” once you understand the company’s roots and its future direction. At its core, the strengths of the company are its people and its core technology. The company has a surprisingly solid group of core technical people. Surprising in that as a relatively unknown company, it was able to recruit and retain a very talented team of people in a highly competitive job landscape. This team has pioneered and refined some of advanced technologies for object and graph data modeling as well as their application in big data and fast, streaming data solutions. The team works well through mutual trust and respect built up over the years of successful business operation. Overall, I rate my experience at Objectivity very high. It is a good company based years of experience in building and growing its profitable database centric business. They understand the market needs, they business specific pain points in the target markets, they have the resources in terms of technology, people and finances to exploit these opportunities, and they have a management team with the right business will and vision to execute their plans for growth. There are always challenges of growing a company in hyper-competitive market space without taking unnecessary risks but I believe the company has a good vision and a plan for continued growth and success.
Minpunten
As with any company, there are some weaknesses. The company remains a relatively unknown brand outside of its immediate target markets. The company needs to adopt more agile processes in an increasingly competitive market space and these processes sometimes clash with existing organizational structures. The company needs to aggressively partner around its target markets. The positive is that the management and board of the company are well aware of these challenges and they are taking the necessary steps to make internal changes as well as recruiting more talented people. I firmly believe the positives outweigh the challenges.
