Most of my colleagues were amazing to work with. They were great at their jobs and even better as people. Most of the tutors were also amazing.
Minpunten
The company put my mental health in a dark place. Working for this company was the most challenging thing that I've done in my career. The culture of this company felt very cult-ish. If you are willing to be all in and drink the blue kool-aid then you can be successful even if you aren't good at your job. However, the culture for me was toxic, unsafe and dangerous. You don't want to work here if you value autonomy, being heard, cared for or having your needs addressed. There's no job security at Paper. Layoffs are routine. Over the past year it has become the norm to hear of people being randomly let go. Fortunately, I could see what this company was about and I left on my own. Unfortunately, I know 40+ others that didn't get to choose. I witnessed incredible employees being let go. If you had a different opinion than upper management then you should start looking for another job. If you stand up for tutors then you should start looking for another job. If you are not willing to bow down at the throne of Paper then you should start looking for another job. The infamous Director that you see many reviews about is truly a tyrant. They are one of the rudest, least professional people at Paper. They are condescending and will talk down to anyone who has a differing opinion. This Director routinely drops "F"bombs during meetings. Tutors will take bets on how many "F" bombs this Director will use. The CEO and COO are often present and allow this type of language to be used. The company loves to use the word equity but struggle to retain emplyees of color. If you look at the top of the org chart it's primarily white men with white women sprinkled in. DEI is not important to Paper. This is especially sad because a large portion of the students Paper serves are students of color. Reach out to any (former) employee of color of Paper and they'll share this truth with you. There are many individuals overseeing departments that lack relevant experience. The most experienced individuals in this company are low level managers and tutors. It shouldn't work that way but that is the Paper way. There are lots of friends working at this company and people get promoted as a result of their friendships. Tutors are the backbone of this company but Paper treats them as second-class citizens. Many of them cried out for support as students made racist, sexist and gender related insults towards them. Upper management ignored the tutors request for help. The company has laid off more people over the past year than I can count but yet spent several million dollars on two company retreats that were basically all inclusive parties with little/no work getting done. Great people continue to willingly leave this company. This company has a great deal of potential but it needs an overhaul at the top.
