PETA is a fearless, gutsy organization and it's not for everyone (because frankly, not everyone can keep up), but if you want to fight for animals in the most effective, compelling way, it's the place for you. My favorite thing about PETA is that we're out there doing the most we can for animals because it's the right thing to do, not to make ourselves popular or congratulate ourselves. PETA thinks critically, does nonstop analysis of the work to make sure it's impactful, and isn't afraid to cross the line when necessary in this incredibly important social justice movement. PETA is funny, smart, and a great, rewarding place to work. Coworkers are kind, supportive, and really a big compassionate family all fighting towards making the world a kinder place for animals.
The work environment is fun and positive--despite the sad subject matter. Everyone cares and your coworkers are inspiring. Upper management is inspiring, kind, and approachable. Even Ingrid--who some folks have a lot of misconceptions about--is approachable, down to earth, open-minded, and supportive.
I also love that PETA is a mostly female-run non-profit, and the strong women who run the various aspects of the organization are truly inspirational each and every day.
This is truly best place to be.
Minpunten
The only con in my eyes would be the salary guidelines, since they can be a bit of a struggle for new, entry-level folks and sometimes for longer serving employees who live in very expensive cities. You really have to want to dedicate your life to the cause and possibly sacrifice a little to make things work. If you want a lavish lifestyle, a career in service is probably not for you. PETA being open to remote positions could help a lot in this regard.
