Pluspunten
Despite the overwhelming cons you will read in this post, there are some pros to be found. Many hardworking and genuine people work at the Paley Center for Media. They are unfortunately hard to find, but when you do, hold on to them. These authentic people that live beyond the office politics that shape this place make it worth coming to work.
Minpunten
After a full 6 months of contract work, I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything like the Paley Center for Media. Office culture is determined by the senior leadership team who have fostered an atmosphere of intimidation often resulting to yelling or scare tactics. Leadership is also comprised of mostly older employees who openly state their reluctance to use more efficient technology in the face of improved results and work-flow. As a woman of color, I often faced long looks as well as inappropriate commentary. Statements frequently made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. In my time here, I’ve also noticed that employees of color are often brought in on a temporary contract with no hope of finding full-time employment with benefits. I’m a prime example of this working for 6 months without healthcare and the topic of becoming a full employee was never brought up regardless of having my contract renewed +4 times. Lastly, if you want to be respected and valued in the workplace, this company is not for you. If you value your personal time outside of your workplace, this company is not for you. If you want to work with culturally competent and growth focused employer, the Paley Center for Media is not the place for you.
