Bad management several levels up. I turned to the district manager for help, only to have her tell me she's "very protective of her managers". They didn't invest in properly training their management or staff. There was noticeable favoritism in terms of hours and the division of labor. I had to spend hours getting documentation and dealing with higher ups in order to get very basic accommodations related to health. The company deliberately under-staffs their stores to save money, leading to poor work-life balance for management and impossible expectations for everyone. Unreasonable amount of work for the amount of time and staff available. Low pay. Power games between employees. Gaslighting and hostility from the assistant managers. High staff changeover. No benefits for permanent part-time staff. Prolific loss prevention problems. Health and safety issues: -the staff constantly cut themselves on sensor pins, but we didn't have a properly stocked first aid kit for a long time - to promote summer footwear head office encouraged us to buy and work in a style of footwear that was unsafe for the work environment -Everyone was constantly getting sick and I saw multiple people get injured - They kept sending us more and more stock even though there was no safe place to put it, as a result our back room was full of boxes to the point where there was no place to sit, we couldn't access the supplies, lockers or fridge, and at one point the emergency exit was blocked, and top stock was collapsing They sent stock that was half way out of season, so we didn't have the right stock for the customers when they wanted it. When the merchandise finally arrived a lot of it would end up in clearance. All around horrible experience. Whenever the assistant manager discovered something she could use was on sale she would reserve all of it for herself, leaving the other employees with nothing. Don't wear nice clothes, it'll get soiled or damaged.
