The team is truly committed to creating exceptional learning experiences for learners and looking for ways to add value to the learning experience. The leadership team is focused on student outcomes and passionate about helping learners begin to earn a living working in fashion and are genuinely focused on creating a valuable learning experience with real takeaways that learners can implement immediately. From a staff perspective, the leadership team is committed to open, honest communication and creating a fun work environment. Staff members are encouraged to take time off to make sure that they are taking care of themselves and their families, friends and other outside interest. There are some really exciting things on the horizon that will make being a member of the Pivot community even more valuable and that is something that is exciting to be a part of.

Minpunten

The company is small, so like any startup change is going to be constant. This isn't really a con, but something to be noted for anyone that is interested in working for a startup. Being agile, adaptable, and comfortable charting a course for something brand new is all part of the experience in working for progressive companies.

Pluspunten

You don't have to see your coworkers or upper management in person.

Minpunten

Micro-manage: There are three native English speakers based in the USA and the rest are located in Russia. Before I was hired, the site and marketing material was already written, but most of it was in broken or poorly written English. As a company targeting students based in the USA, my job was to rewrite the copy so it sounded natural and not foreign. After updating the old material (and writing new material) my work was re-written or questioned and converted back to its original broken English form. I had to explain English grammar and rules to justify changes but was still told I was incorrect. It was frustrating to see ads running with obvious typos and misspellings even though they were fixed by me. Unrealistic Goals: This company was six months old when I started working on their social media channels that basically had 0 followers. Everyone seemed to be under the impression that social media channels grew at a rate of lightning speed in 2022 despite having major algorithm changes over the past decade. My work was constantly being compared to accounts and companies that had been around for 8+ years. There seemed to be unrealistic expectations that I would gain tens of thousands of followers within the first few weeks and felt like I had a gun to my head to get more followers to match up to their competition. Poor Leadership: Each Friday feels like a trial by fire in front of a jury (the entire company is on the call, including the CEO). You then have to present your nicely polished presentation of what you accomplished during the week. If you are expecting positive feedback from this meeting, think again. Your work will be dissected and questioned by the CEO, who then gives you more assignments and tasks for the following week to complete and add to your never-ending list of things to do. No Work/Life Balance: Upon getting hired, I was given a contract that stated my working hours were from 9am to 5pm EST. However, if I only worked 8 hours a day I would only have time to go to meetings and do the ad-hoc tasks that are given as soon as I turn my computer on. 3/4 of the company is based in Russia, so by the time you turn your computer on, you already have tasks on top of the tasks from the day before (plus the weekly goals you have to set and accomplish). You then need to attend the meetings and quickly ask your coworkers for any help before everyone signs off (because it is the end of the day for everyone else). I ended up working from 8 am to 9 pm EST Monday through Friday. While they say they have a flexible work environment, they simply don't. Questionable Product: It feels extremely unrealistic to become a nutritionist (uncertified), interior designer, or personal stylist in 4- 6 months without any sort of real accreditation and just a diploma the graphic designer made. I felt like my integrity was on the line by standing behind a flawed product. Ultimately, if you are drawn to this company by the perks of being 100% remote, with "flexible" working hours, and the freedom to travel, just know that it is all an illusion. You will get 13 days of PTO and yes, you can work from anywhere in the world, but the only thing you will be looking at all day and night is your laptop.
