Pluspunten

RBC's overarching culture is one of integrity, strong values, inclusivity and diversity. It isn't too difficult to move up the the career / hierarchy ladder, provided you have a strong work ethic, deliver effective results, manage internal relationships well and are surrounded by fair and supportive leaders/colleagues. I worked at RBC for almost 6 years, received two promotions within 3 years, and won a number of recognition / performance awards. Met some amazing colleagues and leaders - most employees at RBC are good people.

Minpunten

It reeks of bureaucracy, politics, conflict of interests and nepotism in certain groups/departments of the business. I was laid off on my first day back after returning from a 3-week short-term disability leave. I highly suspect that it was due to politics and peer sabotage for a number of reasons I will not detail. Whatever the case - it's unethical to lay someone off on their first day back from disability - specially in my case, if they are a high-performer with a stellar track record at your company ("succeeded" year-end rating for 3 consecutive years, x3 RBC Performance Awards and member of the High-Potential / High-Priority Talent / Leader programs).

Opportunities to work on enterprise-scale systems with modern tooling and automation initiatives. Excellent collaboration between infrastructure and incident management teams; vendor coordination is efficient. Competitive compensation and benefits package, including solid health coverage and retirement matching.

Minpunten

Workload spikes during major incidents can challenge work-life balance, especially when on-call.

Pluspunten

Een stabiele balans tussen werk en privé. De bedrijfscultuur is fantastisch, het is heel prettig om met complexe managementstructuren en managers samen te werken. Ze staan open voor groei en ontwikkeling, ook in de omgang met klanten.

Minpunten

Er is weinig ruimte voor groei, tenzij je met die verwachting binnenkomt. Je kunt heel gemakkelijk in deze rol vast komen te zitten, omdat je salaris langzaam stijgt terwijl je functietitel grotendeels hetzelfde blijft. Promoties en salarisverhogingen voor medewerkers worden zelden toegekend en vereisen veel overredingskracht om ze te krijgen.
