Pluspunten
In the company’s earlier years, the culture felt genuinely employee-focused and collaborative. There was a strong sense of camaraderie across teams, helped by regular company gatherings and an environment where people appeared invested in both the mission and each other’s success.
The organization was growing quickly at the time, and that growth created a sense of momentum and optimism throughout the company. Work-life balance was healthy, compensation was competitive for the stage of the business, and many of the products being developed felt meaningful and impactful to customers.
Overall, the early culture fostered a level of enthusiasm and team cohesion that made it an enjoyable place to work during that period.
Minpunten
This company, in my experience, is a case study in how poor organizational structure and weak leadership practices can undermine otherwise talented employees. Leadership appeared unwilling to build effective middle management, which resulted in power consolidating around a handful of individuals operating like isolated fiefdoms. Micromanagement, territorial decision-making, and internal politics consistently slowed execution and created recurring late-stage project blowups.
The end result was an exhausting environment where teams spent significant time reworking, firefighting, and navigating internal dysfunction rather than shipping meaningful work.
Another major issue was the repeated implication over several years that equity opportunities would eventually materialize. While nothing was formally guaranteed in writing, the topic was discussed often enough to influence expectations before ultimately disappearing altogether. It left many employees feeling strung along.
Compensation was also below market relative to both workload and expectations, especially given the lack of meaningful long-term incentives and underwhelming salary growth.
Since leaving, I’ve continued to hear about repeated layoffs, reorganizations, and ongoing internal instability, which unfortunately aligns with the broader issues I experienced firsthand.
I would strongly encourage candidates — especially experienced engineers and technical leaders, to evaluate this company very carefully before joining. If you value clear leadership, healthy organizational structure, professional autonomy, and long-term stability, this may not be the right environment for you.
