Set Active was a fast-paced and creatively challenging environment where I gained meaningful experience managing social media, collaborating with influencers, and contributing to brand strategy. The brand has a strong voice and a dedicated community, which made the work engaging. It’s a place where you can grow quickly if you’re self-driven and adaptable, especially if you’re passionate about social media and brand building.

That said, the pace can be intense and priorities shift often. I’ve seen some of the negative posts about leadership, and while I understand that not every experience is the same, I think it’s important to remember there are two sides to every story. In my experience, leadership wasn’t what it’s often portrayed to be by upset former employees. Like any successful company, there were high expectations and moments of pressure, but I didn’t feel mistreated or unsupported.

This job is not for everyone. That said, I enjoyed my experience at SET. My advice to someone considering applying is to have a clear understanding of the kind of work environment you personally perform best in. If you’re a self-starter who’s comfortable with a large work load, quick turn arounds, and a work-in-progress approach to operations, you will have a good experience. If you prefer established SOPs, consistent expectations, or generous timelines to flesh out creative projects, SET likely isn’t your best fit. In my time there, I witnessed genuine interest from the company to act on both employee and community feedback in order to improve. It’s clearly a work in progress, so it’s important to be to clear on whether you’re comfortable joining a business in a new stage of growth and development or if you’d be better off somewhere more established.

I came into this role with ample experience in DTC beauty and fashion, so the high demands and sometimes disorganized work flow didn’t come as a surprise to me. However, I do think that this could be a difficult job for an intern or someone early-on in their career. Because things move so quickly there isn’t a ton of room for thoughtful training or career development. Daily to-do’s, product marketing, and sales goals take priority over employee development and retention. I relied almost entirely on the skills I’d honed in previous jobs in order to succeed at SET.
