Pluspunten
The staff is hard working and cares about seeing the business prosper, it is not "just a job" to them and that makes it a good and productive work experience. The manager and assistant manager are both wonderful people, everyone is easy to get along with. Management and staff are on top of tasks, rarely was anything neglected or done poorly. Direct supervisors are intelligent and work well with staff. (Well, everyone there is intelligent not just management) The small business atmosphere was uplifting and motivating. I felt very in control of my work environment, and enjoyed helping with displays and streamlining the processes and tasks that I did each day. If I had a concern about how a task was done, I knew my concern would be taken into consideration. The majority of the customers are enjoyable and the company is really holding it's own against online retail. Overall, I really enjoyed the work I did and the work environment.
Minpunten
Due to the high value and nature of some of the merchandise (electronics/computer components), customers can be confrontational and even aggressive. (Most situations/confrontations are handled well by management). Owner will attempt to micromanage, even though he has hardworking and exceptional staff (especially for a service-based company). He seemed to take many things too personally and is quick to over react at small or harmless things. This always left the entire staff on edge and needlessly stressed. Everyone knew when he was in a bad mood. There is no system for handling mistakes and misbehavior, when something goes wrong and the owner is involved, the mood is much more of an angry father punishing his children rather than a business owner working with his staff for an optimal work environment. This leads to an obvious lack in professionalism. IMPORTANT: Something that I did not understand when I was hired is that your job security hangs on the whim of the owner, and nothing else (due to state laws). Employees have been discharged without warning or a chance to fix their mistakes, in my opinion a write-up or similar action would have been more appropriate.
