Minpunten

First time in my 25 year career do I feel the requirement to leave a review on Glassdoor to warn others thinking about joining sage software. Promised high bonus at interview, which was just a lie, I smashed all my targets/objectives and got £0 Never before have I witness or experienced shocking behaviour. New Northern Europe Managing Director joined, left after 6 months. Fastest evolving door in tech, most people want to leave within 3 – 6 months of joining. I had no on-boarding, look’s brilliant from the outside, family days, charity time, but all done for a positive spin to cover up the toxic culture. They do have foundation days, but the whole team was told couldn’t attend any as too short staffed, but to 50% vacancies which they couldn’t fill. 80% of VP/Director time is marketing themselves on Linkedin / Twitter taking selfies Bullying is rife across the whole company driven from VP’s who only have interest in themselves looking good. I had my first holiday at month 10, got made to feel terrible for taking any time off and spent the whole time on holiday responding to emails. Unethical performance management, people are put on “needs improvement” positioned as a way to make you a better manager, but it’s just a way for Sage to get rid of people who don’t fit into the boy’s club. Sage, think’s it’s a performance environment by saying it, but it is the furthest away from being a performance environment. Customers are leaving to competitors like Xero / Quickbooks at an alarming rate. Senior people working out of the Shard in London they think they care about small business, but just focus on software price increases and pulling forward annual subscriptions to ensure they hit the numbers. (contract realignment) CEO is the ultimate spin doctor to ensure the market doesn’t look under the hood. Real shame as was a great company, but all the real talent is leaving at an alarming rate like their customers. I hope Sage fixes these issues quickly, I was once a customer and been friends with lots of the people that made Sage the market leader.

Pluspunten

Working at Sage these past 4 years has been both rewarding and energizing. I’ve really valued the opportunity to collaborate with talented teams across the business while helping evolve our Developer Content organization into a broader developer experience and AI-enabled function. One of the most meaningful parts of the experience has been seeing how open people are to innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. It’s been exciting to contribute to initiatives that improve both internal workflows and the experience for our developer community. I’m grateful for the relationships, growth opportunities, and trust I’ve been given throughout the year, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.

Minpunten

With so much innovation and transformation happening across the company, priorities can evolve quickly — but it also creates exciting opportunities to learn, adapt, and contribute to meaningful change.

Pluspunten

-Pay’s decent -Benefits are solid -The Sage Foundation feels like proper philanthropy -Some genuinely nice people -If you’re happy treating work as just a payslip and don’t mind things being a bit dull, Sage is actually quite a comfortable place to be. That stability is a real perk

Minpunten

-Far too many layers of middle management and general bureaucracy -The Ai push is getting a bit daft -Not especially innovative, so the work can feel quite uninspiring. I’m grateful to be employed, but if you’re after something more interesting, Sage will probably disappoint. That said, some people prefer it that way, fair enough -The office / hybrid requirements feel a bit pointless -Sage doesn’t tend to do layoffs, which is good, but it does mean there are quite a few people where you’re not entirely sure what they do. A lot of meetings, essentially. Even the positives come with trade-offs

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful and balanced review. We’re pleased to hear that you value your compensation and benefits, as well as the work our Foundation do, among the areas you’ve highlighted. We also recognise the points you’ve raised around bureaucracy, innovation, and the pace and focus of change. Different people are motivated by different things at work, and it’s helpful to hear honest perspectives on how our structure, processes, and priorities can impact day‑to‑day experience and engagement. Feedback like yours helps inform ongoing conversations as we continue to evolve our ways of working, use technology more meaningfully, and improve the products and experiences we create for our customers.
