Coming in everything seemed awesome. However, after a while you come to realize they put on rose-colored glasses on you and try to sell you on what a great company SamCart is. In actuality it is everything but. Everything is tightlipped and hush-hush from leadership until it is your very last day at SamCart. A cold goodbye and the reality sets in how fake they were from the beginning. Management gives positive messages on how the business is doing in the beginning of the year letting you know that everyone's job is safe when actuality it is not. They are afraid to call lay-offs "lay-offs" and blame it on other reasons like "eliminating the role" due to negative OPTICS and how it would look to others. What do you call letting go of 28 people simultaneously? That's a lot of roles to get rid of just because. Diversity is practically non-existent, they improved on their diversity this year However in the same year LET GO those who were POC and LGTBQ+? Sounds sketch doesn't it? Not to mention it is extremely clique-ish. It's not how well you do your job but how popular you are to management or how long you've been there since the beginning. The sad part is there are a lot of great people at this company but there are a lot of bad apples here that management is determined to never let go. I definitely felt like I had to act like someone else to be liked or take my job less seriously to come off as cool... also "transparency" came with strings. You can be transparent BUT don't rock the boat or be anything we don't like. You can BE YOU but not at the risk of making the majority (white) feel uncomfortable.
