The technology is incredibly out-of-date and often can hinder your ability to actually do your job.
As a DE you are a salesperson for Scouting. Being a sales job, a lot of results will be out of your control, despite your best efforts.
Schools are often not willing to partner on recruitment and this makes meeting membership goals very difficult.
There are so many distractions that you will face that can make it difficult to focus on the bottom line, which is growing Scouting through money, membership and manpower (volunteerism).
