Pluspunten

Exposure to market research work

Minpunten

The workload at this organization is completely overwhelming, unsustainable, and poorly managed, inevitably leading to severe employee burnout. Senior leadership is entirely disconnected from operational realities, demonstrating a profound lack of empathy, support, or advocacy for the teams executing the core work. Most critically, Human Resources is the worst department within the organization. Rather than supporting employees, HR operates with a ruthless, hostile, and aggressive mentality. The company suffers from an incredibly high turnover rate due to frequent, abrupt terminations, creating a pervasive atmosphere of anxiety, instability and fear rather than psychological safety. The overall workplace environment possesses a profoundly negative energy that systematically drains morale and severely impacts mental well-being. Due to this deeply toxic culture, the organization is fundamentally incapable of retaining top talent and dedicated professionals.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. While I am sorry to hear that your experience did not align with what you were looking for, we also feel it is important to provide some broader context. Shapiro Raj operates in a fast-paced, evolving industry that requires agility, adaptability, and a high level of commitment from our team. The pace can be demanding, and we recognize that our environment may not be the right fit for everyone. At the same time, that pace, ambition, and commitment to excellence are also what have allowed us to continue growing, serving our clients at a high level, and remaining resilient through significant industry, economic, and global challenges. We also want to be clear that we take comments about culture, workload, leadership, and employee support seriously. We have invested heavily in our People function, which we view not simply as “HR,” but as a core capability of the company. Our goal is to support our team members, create clear communication channels, and ensure that concerns can be raised through multiple avenues, including People, direct managers, senior leaders, and executive leadership. We do not believe the characterization of our People team or leadership reflects the organization we are working hard to build every day. We also want to clarify that the company has not had any involuntary terminations in over nine months, and we remain committed to thoughtful, fair, and respectful people practices. That said, we understand that not every employee experience is the same, and we are always open to feedback that helps us improve. We will continue to focus on maintaining a strong, supportive, high-performing culture where people can do meaningful work, grow in their careers, and contribute to the future of our industry. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Pluspunten

I always had something to work on. I learned a ton about AI and by writing programs that actually used both. I gained exposure to how a software team operates. The other employees were welcoming and kind. Being in NYC is a fun experience.

Minpunten

The NY office is small, with only a few employees in every day.

Minpunten

This was one of the most challenging work environments I’ve experienced, primarily due to structural and management issues. 1. Lack of middle management There is a noticeable gap between junior employees and senior leadership. Many employees leave within 1–2 years, while others remain long-term in upper management roles. This creates a disconnect, where leadership may lack visibility into day-to-day team challenges and employee experience. 2. Management concerns I experienced inconsistent communication and limited support from my direct manager. At times, expectations were unclear, and there was a lack of adaptability despite working in a market research environment that should value new ideas and evolving perspectives. This made it difficult to do my job effectively and grow in the role. 3. Frequent organizational changes The company frequently shifts direction, sometimes multiple times within a year. While iteration can be positive, the lack of stability and follow-through made it challenging to execute work consistently. Overall, I found the environment to be under-stimulating and difficult to navigate, and I would encourage candidates to ask detailed questions about management structure, team support, and long-term direction before joining.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. I’m sorry to hear that your experience at Shapiro Raj felt challenging and difficult to navigate. I do want to acknowledge that Shapiro Raj has been evolving quite a bit, and in an industry that is changing as quickly as ours, that evolution can sometimes feel fast, imperfect, and even frustrating. That does not make the experience you described any less important, but it is context I think matters. One of the things I care a lot about is making sure our team members feel supported, heard, and clear on where we are going. We do not always get that perfectly right, and when someone leaves feeling like communication, management support, or structure was not strong enough, that is something I take seriously. I also appreciate the point around candidates asking thoughtful questions about management structure, team support, and long-term direction. Those are fair and important topics for anyone considering a role with us, and I would encourage candidates to have those conversations openly during the interview process. A strong fit goes both ways, and I want anyone joining Shapiro Raj to have a clear understanding of who we are, how we work, and where we are headed. While I’m sorry your experience was not what you hoped it would be, I appreciate you sharing your perspective and wish you the best in what comes next.
