Pluspunten

Amazing coworkers, remote flexibility, and health insurance is decent. There are some very brilliant individuals that you can learn a ton from.

Minpunten

Management does a terrible job at running and managing the company. Over the last couple of years there have been too many changes in direction and goals, and poor understanding of how to make the company profitable. There is very little communication from the top down and very little work has gone into removing silos and breaking down barriers. Too many people are overly protective of their jobs, and don’t want to collaborate with others over fear of being exposed for doing little to no work. Management does not know how to properly manage the company and take it towards a path of profitability, and the decisions made have little logic behind them. There’s no Market Research, no GTM strategy, nor data driven decisions. Instead decisions are made on the basis of favoritism and who can cram the most buzzwords in each sentence. This behavior is reinforced by management, who abuse buzzwords to pretend to know what they are talking about. Ultimately, it’s the same spiel over and over again, with very little follow through on action items. They have recently let go of about 40 individuals in the most recent wave of layoffs, however, in the last 6 months the company has lost more than half of their staff. After this round of layoffs, the company will be a fraction of what it was this time last year. Mismanagement of resource is a common theme in this company and it costs hard working people their jobs. Accountability is a foreign concept to management at SU, and passing the blame to subordinates is the name of the game. Decisions are made in a vacuum, and by individuals that do not know how to run a company. The previous CEO was a pretty face to plaster all over Social Media, but there is not one person that’s in a decision making capacity that knows what they are doing. After the CEO’s departure, they put the CGO in charge, who has lead the company to it’s current breaking point. For having "Growth" in her title, she’s done a terrible job at growing the company. I’m not sure how the board has kept her around, but I would not be surprised if blame has been passed on to someone else. Favoritism runs rampant at this company, and the individuals in management barely have the qualifications to merit their positions. If you are not one of the CGOs favorites you need to start counting your days until you are eventually let go from the company. Individuals that try to speak up and implement processes to make working more efficient are shut down, sidelined, and completely ignored. It’s better to just save your breath. This company is a sinking ship, management knows that, they are rebuilding a brand new company and slapping the SU name on it. Sadly SU was just one big experiment that failed and now they are scrambling to do something that will make money. Unfortunately, they are moving further and further away from their original mission. I hope the new CEO understands what he’s getting himself into, it’s not a pretty picture.

Pluspunten

- From years of trauma-bonding I’ve made friends I will have for a lifetime

Minpunten

- After years of hiring hardworking, brilliant people that were driven by the mission, leadership pivoted completely and yet still expected people to give up their lives to work for an organization that had no direction let alone a focus on making the world better - The pay is so low, especially from how many hours they demand of you, it’s laughable - Management plays favorites - In 2020 there was a big layoff (much like other companies), with those that were left forced into “temporary” pay cuts. Months later, without a word on when salaries would be restored to what they should be, when asked, leadership stated in no uncertain terms that those of us that were left should be grateful we even had jobs. Many of us had to get second jobs/side hustles to cover the gap in pay while still grinding out 70+ hour weeks - Leadership called the company a family as a way to justify employees needing to work around the clock and making their jobs their lives. Yet when abrupt and unfair layoffs with barely, if any, severance, they would pivot and say “this is not a family, this is a business.”
