Target is a dynamic company to work for. It is always changing and very fast-paced if that's your sort of thing. If you're surrounded by good leadership, then your experience will be enjoyable. Much of that falls on your Store Team Leader and your District Team Leader. Another thing is that management is very visible and involved at your store, so they aren't a mysterious group of people. The work can be enjoyable and the pay is good for someone who is just out of college with no previous management experience. The work is challenging, but you feel accomplished when you see the results of developing your team.

Though the company claims to be all about communication, no one really tells you anything. In my case, the lack of communication from my superiors is what defeated me and caused me to leave the company. Retail is also a tough industry, which is hard to understand until one actually gets there. That said, when you're interviewing and the company is trying to recruit you, they conveniently leave out the actual stuff that you will be doing once you get in the store. They make it look easy to get promoted, even to headquarters when those goals are nearly impossible. You also don't have a choice in the exact department that you will be managing, and people are often forced to change in the middle of their training. The hours are also long and there is no overtime pay. The employee discount isn't great either, and you must only use cash unless you sign up for their credit card. In addition, if you do decide to sign up for their credit card, beware that if you miss a payment you can get written up for it and possibly lose your job eventually.
