(Before reading) I would NOT recommend Techmd to a friend. If you decide to work here I would only recommend to use Techmd as a stepping stone. Stay for a year to learn the basics and then find another job for 50%+ more pay Techmd sent an email to all staff about 6 months ago asking employees to submit positive reviews on Glassdoor saying "good glassdoor reviews = we can hire better people = we can pay better salaries." The 5 star positive reviews you see below are submitted by upper management and some fake ones by HR using alises. Just read them and its clear which are fake and real. When your pros mention "Techmd's Award Winning Culture" and your only con is "Employees need to embrace TechMD culture and work with colleagues as a team. If you are more of an independent lone wolf this is probably not a good fit for you." Are you even trying to pretend? (Sexism, Sexual Harassment, HRs Malicious Treatment of Victims) There are about 50 men and 8 women at Techmd. There are no women in technical roles. About three years ago there were two women in administrative roles who wanted to fill an open technical role. They were both told that they were not displaying the "desire" to be in tech and would need to obtain a technical certification to show they were interested. Weeks later the position was filled by a man who had no technical certifications and no previous technical experience. There have been two cases of physical sexual harassment in the past few years. In the first case HRs solution was to separate the harasser and the victim so they do not work together directly. The victim was one of the women who were denied the technical position and quit shortly after this. The harasser still works at Techmd today. In the second case of sexual harassment the victim was strong armed by HR to sign an NDA. HR threatened the victim that if they went public he would be terminated. The harasser was forced to take 1 week PTO and then returned to no punishment. The victim felt so uncomfortable at work that they left the company. The harasser continued to work at Techmd for another year before they left by their own choice. The litigation that followed was settled out of court. Recently Techmd required employees to sign a Mutual Arbitration Agreement to prevent future lawsuits. HR is there to protect the company and does not care about your well being (Pay, Outsourcing, and Gaslighting) Pay is insultingly low. Management has recently decided that hiring in California is "too expensive." Going forward Tier 1 techs are all being hired out of the country (Phillipines), all Tier 2 techs are being hired in low cost of living states, and Tier 3 techs must be local to the business. Techmd wants to pay less for the same level of work. The tech team consists of 75% tier 1, 20% tier 2, and 5% tier 3. As people leave the company they often spread out that person's responsbilities rather than rehire to replace the role. You will gain another role's responsibilties (completely separate from your own) to do on top of your current role. If you ask for more money in return (which would make complete sense, more responsibility = more pay), they'll hit you with the "you aren't being a team player" and "we're all in this together so we need to all share the load." Pure gaslighting. I also have been frequently gaslit by Techmd regarding pay. I was told by my boss that I "wasn't worth more money right now", despite the fact that I would bring forth similar jobs that were paying significantly more than Techmd. The response was always either "that is a higher position that you aren't qualified for", "they're a one-man shop so they can pay more for tech roles", or "stay for another year and we can try to get you there." False promises They say they look at other companies and have "competitive market pay." I would be very interested to see what companies they are looking at because it is always below market. Press them and they admit you can make more at other companies but it is a tradeoff to "learn more" and "have a great culture." I guess their answer is they make up for it by having ping pong tables and office snacks. (Openly supports racism) There is one African American employee at Techmd and there have been only 2 others in the 15 years of the company. One of them was an on-site technician and went on-site to one of our biggest clients. He was pulled aside by the client and asked not to come back because the CEO is openly racist and did not want to see him. Instead of saying something to the client Techmd just told the employee he doesn't have to go onsite there anymore and started sending white techs instead Money is more important than principle (Turnover is high and the mentality on service team right now is very negative) In the past year the turnover rate is >20%. Several high level technicians have left and it has the team worried about the future of the company. I talk to colleagues on my team daily who are looking to leave the company. I am interviewing and will be leaving ASAP The “Great Culture” is a lie. Techmd had great culture 2+ years ago. People USED to stay after work and play games or hang out. Techmds culture now is a shell of what it was. Even before COVID nobody would hang out after hours. Everyone was so burned out on work that they just want to go home. It now just feels like a soulless business that does not care about employees (Techmd is a ticket mill and only survives on cheap labor) Techmd needs low cost Tier 1s to survive as a company. They prey on people looking to get into the industry and sell the "cool Google culture/office" to draw people in. Once you are onboard you quickly find out that it is all a sham. If you work on service team you will be working on tickets all day every day. Tier 1s only work on basic tickets. You will not get to work on anything fun and you will be worked until you are sick of it. You are expected to do all learning outside of work and you will have few opportunities or time to learn anything during work hours If you want to become a Tier 2 you have to have at least 2 years experience and complete certain certifications. But I was told by my boss that if Techmd has too many Tier 2s you may not be able to move up because they need a certain number of tier 1s and they only want to pay a certain number of tier 2s After Hours Rotation is mandatory for all technicians. If its your turn you have to monitor calls that come in M-F 6pm-11pm and Saturday/Sunday 6am-11pm. You are paid over time but only for the time you put on the tickets. You could have 2 tickets come in and make little money but be forced to sit by your computer all day. Say goodbye to your week/weekend if your on rotation (Nepotism, Favortism, and Special Treatment) The Employee Handbook states that hiring relatives or significant others is not allowed in any form at Techmd. Unless you're related to the owners (4 current staff members) or dating one of the upper managers (then you come in making 70% more than others in similar positions). Then it is ok It is clear who the favorites are and it is even more clear when you are not one of them. You may be denied time off while your coworker gets it approved. Promotions are not always based on experience and can be purely political, often based on if you are friends with your manager/upper management's opinion of you (Leadership) A new President came in about a two years ago and he has significantly shifted the direction of the company to focus on every dollar and cent that is spent. He rarely came in to the office (pre-covid) or responds to messages. Then he comes into the company townhalls and talks about 'family' and 'we're all in this together'. The executive team lives in a different reality from the staff Techmd has a Leadership Training Program and after completing the program you qualify to become a Team Lead (if you can ever get out of the Tier 1/2/3 ladder, good luck). The program consists of reading 5-6 books. These people are then promoted into managerial positions and their lack of experience shows. Half of the managers should never be in positions to lead people Techmd will defend their leaders, managers and anyone with seniority and will instead tell you that you are the problem. I have lost all faith in leadership. (If you question anything) If you do not buy in to 'the Techmd way' you will be singled out and possibly fired. If you criticize anything like terrible pay, bad managers, even questioning the way things are, you will be told that you are not 'following Techmd's Core Values' or you 'are not a team player'. Techmds default excuse to refuse a pay raise, pressure someone into working OT, or fire someone is "you are not living our core values" (Summary) I wish I never took this job. This is the most toxic company I have worked for and the GASLIGHTING NEVER ENDS.
