Minpunten
For a company with a feminist mission, it runs in a way that is completely contrary to the values upheld by feminism. The CEO manages through fear. She is inappropriate, constantly uses abusive language, and puts down her employees. This creates an awful dynamic where employees clamor for her approval while being mistreated. It's really hard to be around. Meanwhile, she takes credit for everyone's work, when in actuality she is disruptive to the team. She repeatedly put her own pursuit of fame above what was best for the company. The team was always on edge when she was in the office. The management uses age and their mission to to exploit their employees. Most of the people were paid shockingly below market rate. The justification for low pay was that "we are young and we got to work on something we cared about." When people requested higher pay, they were characterized as greedy and not committed to the cause. Our benefits package was non-existent. During my time they announced a maternity leave policy that started at two weeks paid and two weeks unpaid for the "birthing parent" and one week for the "non-birthing" parent, this leave was increased depending on how long an employee had been at the company but maxed out at a month of paid leave. Also, the management justified low pay by claiming that equity would eventually open, but this never occurred. Despite being undervalued and made to feel psychologically unsafe - employees were super committed went above and beyond expectations. It was painful to watch my talented peers be grossly undervalued and mistreated while giving the job their all. THINX is a feminist company that disempowers and undervalues its (majority woman) staff. I loved my co-workers and it broke my heart to leave, but at the end of the day quitting was the feminist decision.
