Pluspunten

Bonus scheme A few nice staff members (usually the same ones that get bullied by the 'clique')

Minpunten

- So desperate to recruit they hire people under the guise that that they'll tailor the role to their skills. This won't happen, and you'll be thrown in at the deep end with zero support and some very aggressive staff members looking for someone to pick on. - There is a 'clique' at Ultimate which, when you first join, will tell you about what great mates everyone is. That circle are great mates (including upper management) and they take great pleasure in ripping your confidence to pieces if you don't fit in with them by having a bullying attitude like them. This toxic culture only means that when they don't have anyone else left to bully, they start turning in on people in their own group. - Everyone is so scared of this group that there is a massive blame culture, and staff members do yell at each other and use each other as scape goats (I was once blamed and yelled at for something that happened before I ever started working there) - You'll be expected to work way over your hours, including weekends, and they won't acknowledge this (they think it's ok because they have an office play station...) - Terrible holiday allowance and a supposedly independent HR team which will threaten you to try to make you work a longer notice period than you are legally, contractually obliged to

Hello, Firstly, we’d like to thank you for taking the time to write a review on your short time at the company. We listen to all feedback, and since 2021 we have made this a priority and have invested a lot of time asking the team what significant changes they would like to see made within the business and in the way that we work together as a team. With this in mind, and having read through some of the examples that you have included, it is clear that you left the company a long time ago and so we’re sorry that you only felt it appropriate to bring these matters to our attention now after such a long time. One such example, which you have referred to, is our approach to flexible working hours, and the team holiday allowance, both of which, amongst many other things, have been completely reviewed and we have now made enhancements in both these areas following a full comparison of other companies benefit packages within our sector to ensure we are competitive. We are very sorry that you have not been with the company to see these changes. We really do feel it is important to state at this point that we are fully aware of a very small number of disgruntled ex-employees who have taken it upon themselves to repeatedly write these negative reviews. This is exemplified in the number of repetitions of matters that were, at their time of employment, confirmed to us by the specific employees to have been resolved to their satisfaction. We are very happy to be open about these situations and the specific actions taken, where appropriate, to provide a balanced view of the facts. We stand firm that we remain open and welcoming of feedback, and actively continue to encourage it from our growing number of existing team members. It is their feelings and ideas that are helping to drive us forward, and we are passionate about continuing on a progressive path and not dwelling on these minor events that may or may not have happened a number of years ago. As we believe this to be a totally disingenuous review, we have, and continue, to invite you to contact a member of our team directly, however to date, no such efforts have been made. We can only therefore consider each matter as resolved, and these repetitive reviews to now be an unnecessary slur and classed as historic occurrences of a now very progressive and fast moving company. Should you wish to discuss this or any of the points raised to an impartial ear, we continue to welcome you to contact me on Claire.Owen@ultimate-uk.com.

The staff are very welcoming when you first start, especially given the limitations if you're not working in the office itself.

Minpunten

The onboarding process took weeks, to the point where some of the initial days my day consisted of having non-stop introduction meetings with staff members I never spoke to again. There certainly was a culture of "if you've been here a long time we like you, if you're new we don't" after the initial onboarding period. A clique-y culture has been mentioned on reviews that pre-dated my time at the company which supposedly were dealt, but my experience was that it was still there; just more subtle, which in a way is worse because it makes you unsure whether the distain you're getting is because of something you said or just the overall culture, when it's more out in the open you can at least dismiss it and move on. The development team were very elitist and if you didn't code in a very precise way then you were considered a substandard developer. Things like constantly using "advanced" terminology unnecessarily; something I've never seen done anywhere else, even at more successful companies/teams. It was like the management in the development side of things were trying really hard to make the development team like what people envisage the developers at Apple or Facebook to be day to day. The review process massively slowed down workload. I can understand having an approval process for deployments/merges of new code; but having to have someone approve 1 line of code change only to reject it because of a minor discrepancy between how they would have done it and how you did (eg their version was inconsequentially more "optimised" code). Ultimately I was let go after the probation period ended; the reasons given in the dismissal meeting included many issues that had never been raised to me prior and could've easily been changed had they been mentioned previously. I have my suspicions that the reason for the dismissal was actually because the company was failing to win bigger contracts at the time and had already reduced one department from 5 to 4 days a week, so they probably let me go in a cost-cutting measure on a "last in, first out" basis. What really irked me, even to this day was the fact that after the call dismissing me my work email and other factors immediately stopped working because they had cancelled them, which meant I was reliant on WhatsApp-ing the team leader to ask for clarifications about very important things like the nature of the notice period (ie whether I was paid for that period, something I needed to know so I could plan accordingly). In Summary, if you're looking to do business with this company or indeed work for them; I would highly recommend only doing so if it's your only other option.

Pluspunten

So many exciting projects to work on and every member of the team has time to sit and help you. Real transparency on business needs and goals which was always refreshing and reassuring, meant you always knew where the business was up to. Team days and parties were so great, really focused on bringing the team together rather than all work no play. I personally felt like they gave me so many opportunities to develop my career and always happy to help me progress. Everyone has their own experiences but professionally and personally I always felt supported.

Minpunten

Working remotely full time could sometimes mean you don’t get to see or speak to some members of the team so often if you’re not on a project together you might not speak to another team member for a while. Equipment could probably have done with a little upgrade at times but wouldn’t say it was a major issue.
