I have been with UniFirst as an Outside Sales Representative out of the Pompano Beach, FL. location for 13 weeks and I just completed my ramp up training and qualified for a generous bonus. UniFirst has invested a lot of time and money creating a fantastic training program. Everything is planned out by weeks, so you can focus on certain skills in small batches and not feel overwhelmed because there is a lot to learn. The training is a mix of hands on training and classroom. Part of the time, you are in the field and in a plant learning what each department does so you understand all of the processes that compile the products and the services that is the core of the company. The other times you are in a video conference classroom setting taking different courses to give you the skill sets that you will need when you are out in your territory and setting appointments with prospects. From the beginning you can tell the company really wants you to succeed and you appreciate the structure of the training. The video conferences are very informative and the instructors are all former sales reps who really understand what they are training you to do, because they have all been there. They keep the classes lively and participation is strongly encouraged. Another big plus with this company is they are very big about promoting from within. My Sales Manager, David started as a Sales Rep just like me and he has been with the company for ten years, so he has a lot of knowledge about UniFirst and the various companies out there that we compete for business with. He is very generous with his time, answering questions, following up and reviewing the training with me and then going out on appointments with me to help me close deals. But he does this with the most veteran sales reps, as well, so it is easy to see that the support from management never ends. The General Manager of our location, Alex, started as a route drive over twenty years ago and has worked many different positions throughout the company, so he is extremely knowledgeable about all areas of the business. He too is very approachable and always there for question and direction. These are not the sort of managers that are found in other companies, who just run reports and attend meeting all day. The managers at UniFirst work with their teams and support their employees for the greater good of the company as a whole. If you are a hungry person who desires upward mobility with your career, then the opportunities are there with UniFirst. If you want to re-locate to a different part of the country, then the opportunity is there because the company has offices all over. If your parents are getting older and their health is failing and you have to move to another state to be close to them then there is a good chance you can put in for a transfer to accommodate your needs and still stay with the company. Just last week a company wide email was sent out announcing an open position in the training department at the corporate office. The company is growing and expanding so the chances for a hard worker with drive and ambition to get ahead are absolutely there. I experienced a company layoff from my former management position and was unemployed for many months before I saw an ad online for this position. I had been offered a lot of other sales positions during that time but they were all largely commission based position where you start tomorrow and get no training in a sink or swim environment. UniFirst pays an actual salary that you can live on plus a generous car/gas allowance, cell phone allowance, plus a great benefits package. There are also fun sales contests where hard workers can earn Visa gift cards, dinners out, a paid day off and other extras which add up and lend to a healthy competitive spirit with other locations around the country. The interview process is very straight forward. There are none of those silly role plays like "tell me about a time that you had an upset customer...what was the issue, what did you do to fix it and what was the outcome"? Then you spend 20 minutes answering one question and it is tough for your real personality and skills to shine through. The interview process that I went through was a phone interview with the person who would actually be my immediate supervisor. After a couple of interview with my sales manager I had an interview with him, the general manager and the regional manager before a decision was made for me to be extended an offer. I feel very fortunate to have found this company.
