Pluspunten

+ Coworkers are usually smart and nice + If you actively refuse more responsibility, you can probably work here for several years at your starting salary without much expectation. This is a benefit if you're not looking for any upward mobility. + Works in the latest Azure technology, usually. + Hires lots of women engineers. This is a strong positive because most tech companies are struggling with this, for whatever reason. Valorem is very good at hiring a diverse workforce in general.

Minpunten

- Upward mobility is determined on a whim. Perfect annual reviews do not equal promotions or raises. Reasons are usually just "it wasn't your time this time around" - Work/life balance is not guaranteed here. Personally I had 0 work/life balance with NO support to get it to a better place. - Seriously, if you put in 80 hours a week for a month (which I did), nobody will ever ask you if you're OK. - You will likely not get a raise or promotion unless you turn in your 2 weeks or talk about doing so. Everyone who gets promoted or salary bumps has done so by complaining or threatening to leave. - New hires are hired in at much higher salaries than people who work there doing the same position with the same responsibilities. - Takes advantage of their workers through uncompetitive pay, layering on responsibilities without promoting, and not doing market salary adjustments. - Communication is terrible post-pandemic. Engineers or other billable workers which require focus time will have to work after work hours just to avoid the cold-calls and random messages throughout the day. - There are multiple project managers which have 0 experience in project management tools, SCRUM, AGILE, etc. They are just winging it. - Stakeholders are never told no. Timelines are commonly accepted before there is any discussion with the development team. - Management has favorites. The CEO and upper management would frequently converse with their favorite people but never make time to meet or mingle with others. - Valorem was sold to Reply, an Italian parent company, and the benefits have never been clear to anyone except for the partners who got huge payouts. - Rumors are rampant, largely due to management telling everyone to keep things secret. As an example, the lead on my project once put in their two weeks and the rest of the team wasn't told until the day he was leaving. - I was bullied early on during my time at Valorem and reported it to HR. No action was taken and it was sweeped under the rug. Two employees told me that I was "a better person before I lost weight" (granted this was before HR was changed around and put under new leadership) - Payroll has been missed 3 times since I worked there. All three times were blamed on external circumstances. I've never heard of a company having this many payroll problems. - Morale is incredibly low amongst almost all of the engineers (due to the cons listed above) and it spreads negativity and makes you feel bad about being at work. - Burnout is incredibly high amongst engineers and other billable workers. Projects do not have enough people assigned to them. This is often referred to as "lean projects" by management. - Input usually does not lead to action, only words. Positive changes get "caught up in the grind" and never enacted.

I am very sad to hear that this was your experience during your tenure at Valorem. While we have our personal set of challenges as all companies, over your 6+ year time here, one experiences many growing pains. Valorem experienced 16x growth during your tenure and the people here are doing some incredible things despite the unintended imperfections. One of our company values is "Assume best intent" because we realize in this environment, we learn fast, grow fast, and fail fast. It's not an environment for everyone, but personally I have to say it is a top-notch company, merging with a global $1B+ company targeted to replicate the same thing in the U.S. in the next few years. The intentions are good, and aspirations are high. We are doing great things and I want to put it in perspective. While there will be shortcomings that occur, especially during one of the most difficult times for humanity in decades with a global pandemic, we work to have grace, empathizing with the challenges facing literally everyone. Valorem doubled down to be there for its people. We achieved our highest engagement scores ever and experienced record low turnover 30% lower than the industry and have continued this trend during the 2021 year when turnover in all industries is at record highs. I know a high growth climate in a cutting-edge tech consulting firm is not for everyone, but for those who love this industry, there are few places that compete with some of the amazing opportunities being created. Do we make mistakes? Yes, like all companies. That doesn’t change our resolve and our focus on doing the right thing. We are investing significantly into our people through development, competitive pay, and benefits, and we are making great strides every year. We also continue to support Hybrid work during the pandemic. Our people have had the option to work from home since day 1 with no intent to change that in the foreseeable future. We are a company that is providing great opportunities to people, we believe in developing our people, and have leaders who are doubling down to make this a long-term career destination for its people. It saddens me to see reviews like this because I know it doesn’t define who we are. We make mistakes and we do a lot of great things too. But it’s a reality in every company and we do our best to learn and improve. You had a 6+ year successful career with us, I wish we could have worked it out. I wish you the best of luck!

Pluspunten

You'll meet some talented colleagues and get to work on a great deal of Microsoft projects.

Minpunten

Silent layoffs with colleagues disappearing without notice or explanation. Hours allocated to projects rarely reflect actual workload — employees are expected to juggle multiple client projects simultaneously with low allocation per project, tight timelines, and high quality standards to meet client expectations during presentations. Consistent pressure from leadership to be more cross-functional, take on additional responsibilities, and drive 100% renewal of existing client contracts. Many colleagues are based in Kochi, India, requiring employees to work extended hours or adjust their schedules to bridge the communication and time zone gap. Paid below market rate.
