Minpunten
Management: They're all incredibly out of touch with how things work in the industry today, because they haven't bothered to keep up with trends of the past 30 years. If you're someone who enjoys shocking your friends in the business, just tell them what kind of technology you're working with at WWLP, and watch their jaws drop as they wonder whether they're talking to someone who mysteriously just time traveled from 15 years ago. If you have new ideas about how to freshen things up, write them down on a piece of paper and throw them in the trash, because they'll be ignored anyway. And forget about moving up in the company because no matter how good you are at your job, you'll probably burn out before you work there long enough to get a decent shift, since management favors seniority over skill. Pay: Very low. I suppose it could be worse, but it's definitely terrible considering most of the jobs are relatively specialized. News: Nothing exciting happens in the market so prepare to work on of shows with lots of filler from national sources, and often nothing new since the last newscast. The most exciting time is winter but snow coverage gets old the first time you have to wake up in the middle of the night to go stand in it. Work environment: Miserable because nobody is happy at work (mostly for the above reasons). If you take a look around, the only time people look even remotely happy is while they're eating lunch, but even then, a lot of people barely have time for lunch because the workload is so poorly spread out by management. But the toxic work environment is kind of understandable since good work is never recognized, but your every minor mistake will be scrutinized. The higher ups at the station love to toot their own horns for being number 1 for so long, but at the end of the day this has zero benefit to the average employee. It's pretty depressing to think of how many promising careers have probably been soured by the experience of working in a place like this, because honestly there are quite a few people who are super talented, but will never get the recognition or pay they deserve.
