Minpunten

2017 to 2019. Employees are treated like slaves. They want to book all orders that approach the door, as all the managers & corporate employees cares about is money and their bonus & profit margins. Customers can treat you horribly. They can lie, even if you can prove them wrong. If a customer has a complaint, like he wants to skip the wait or wants to get something for free, the customer can go bother managers that aren't part of the Automotive department and get what they want. I understand that the "customer is always right" but it was ridiculous at that Walmart. When I started working as a full-time technician, I was scheduled for 40 hours a week. I don't remember exactly when but the company started to remove the first 30 minutes of each day on my schedule and the other technicians' schedules. This was causing employees to be paid for 2.5 hours of work less per week, as the schedules would be ended at 8pm for the evening shifts I worked. Employees could recoup those hours with more orders past the shut off time of 7pm everyday, but then the employees would be working overtime which is meager and that overtime pay would be taxed more by the government. Speaking of taking orders up to 7pm, the managers wanted all customers who approached the sales desk to be taken and placed into the queue. This is terrible for the employees, like myself, who worked the 11am to 8pm shift. The evening employees could be swamped with orders all day, so it was easy to have orders still processing past 7pm. We would get our lunch break, but usually not our second 15 minute break, breaking OSHA rules. The rules for the shop were that there always had to be two technicians in the shop. The morning shift leaves at 3pm, the mid-shift leaves at 6pm, so the evening shift are left on our own after 6pm. The managers would never give us a good answer on when we should take this break, because the store only hired & scheduled two evening employees a day as that's more money in profit margins. They would say to take it earlier, but that doesn't even give the evening employees a break from work as we take lunch from 3pm-4pm, so we would have 2+ hours of work without a break especially if we have many orders still waiting at 7pm. Then we would have to clean up the shop. It understandable that the shop needs to be prepared for the next day, but there were multiples problems that made cleanup horrible for the evening technicians. Some of the morning and mid-shift employees were lazy and inconsiderate to the evening employees, so they would make one or more messes for the evening employees to clean up. They knew that they could get away with it as if a morning employee left a mess that the evening employee didn't clean up, the morning guy could tattle to a manager and say that the evening employee didn't do their job. A perfect recipe for a hostile work environment. This job wasn't all bad, as there were some slow & relaxing days, and the shop manager named Pete was considerate to the issues I wrote above. The other managers above him and in the store however were uncaring. If myself and the other evening technician had a rough day and finished cleaning up the shop before 8pm without our break, we would have an overnight manager make us do more work like organizing shelves. They say that we're not allowed to take our break at the end of the shift, but when we explain that we weren't given the correct time for the break, they don't care as that's the Automotive department's problem. If the management can milk the exhausted technicians for a few more minutes or work, like a shriveled female cow about to die from overextraction, then they will do it. This concludes my review. Things may be different there five years after I left, but someone would have to work there to find out.

Pluspunten

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Minpunten

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
