Pluspunten
The people are lovely and I was paid well. Hybrid is definitely my favorite work structure and they're very flexible about people leaving early or working from home more than usual when needed. I imagine this company will at some point get acquired so options are nice.
Minpunten
At my time at Volley I worked with quite a few managers, including product and engineering managers. There were a select few who stood out as really great, but most were terrible. Some of the things that were said to me personally and many of my coworkers would qualify as down right unethical and created a horrible, anxiety inducing work environment. As other reviews have said, management would take credit for anything positive that has been achieved and then point downward when things went wrong, despite being warned by the people they are pointing at. Beyond that, there was a lot of tech debt and code quality outside of the "SOLID" push was simply not prioritized. I think this was likely tied to the crunch culture around features and how over-leveled people were. Pushing out features, satisfying product, and making managers look good comes above all else. There were a lot of lovely people but if I'm being honest, not a ton of super highly technical engineers I could look up toward and learn from. This is something I seriously missed from past work environments. Plus most of the people I would consider great engineers were leaving around the time that I did. Lastly, several of my POC coworkers reported being paid inexplicably under their peers, which goes in line with management claiming they would publish transparent pay bands and then rescinding that.
