A paycheck and fellow employees

Minpunten

Insurance is terrible. You pay a premium out of your check every week and still might as well be self insured because nothing is covered unless you reach a ridiculously high deductible first. They have taken away all company events. Employees have to raise their own funds for their picnic. The required rate has gone from 70 to 90 percent, meanwhile it keeps getting harder to achieve a decent rate. They expect everyone to be able to reach that rate which is an average done by a time study on multiple factors and subjects. Example... a 60 year old female is expected to make a rate based on a system where they have time studied 20-30 year old males. They don't take age, physical ability, etc. into consideration. Recently a 60+ year old male with a disability was wrote up for not making the 90% minimum rate after being with the company for over 30 years. Another 60 + year old male who had open heart surgery less than a year ago was also wrote up for the same thing. The DC manager made a comment in a entire shift meeting a month ago that the large budget cut would be resolved if they could get rid of 10 people, which means in Wolverine language 10 lower performers have a target on their back. Yet they have some people who get put on jobs where there is no rate and it's completely fine for them to stand around and talk including with supervisors all day. I have been told by numerous former supervisors that they are required to sign NDA's and are not allowed to speak of the stuff that happens or they will lose their jobs and pensions. The building is incredibly dirty (No one takes the time to clean up because it lowers their already ridiculously difficult rate to take the time to clean). They only care about cleaning if a tour (corporate employees) is expected and then it's only the path they will be using that is cleaned. Even after law suits for contamination and polluting ground water they still don't worry about their impact on the environment they throw away tons of plastic weekly which would be better off recycled. The turnover rate which for the first decade I worked for the company was low, it was a place people retired from, now the turnover rate is like a revolving door. Numerous long term employees have quit (including 20+ year employees). We used to receive a plaque and gift for important anniversary dates every 5 years with a gift of appreciation. That no longer happens, in fact it's not even acknowledged with a card or anything. It's common to hear management say there's no job here that will hurt you, however it's a requirement to be able to lift, carry, & stack 50 lb. cases all day. Trying to go fast in order to make rate prevents people from lifting and moving properly so they do indeed get hurt. Many people have had injuries (some requiring surgery) including back, shoulder, wrist, knee, and feet. A 19 year employee who is suffering a shoulder injury and was on workmans comp because it was job related recently was fired for not returning paperwork immediately although they were not told they needed to. They were already off (sent home) and were told to keep the company notified. The employee called after follow up visit with doctor and told them that the restrictions were the same as when they were sent home and physical therapy was added. They were also told someone from safety or HR would be contacting them which never happened. Trying your best and putting forth an honest effort mean nothing to this company. What people are physically capable of is the only thing that matters. When people are young, strong, and fast they are ok, but once they age and the wear to their bodies kicks in the are bullied to push harder. Years of service means nothing to them. People are disposable to this company. Management makes it clear that the workers are easily replaceable. It's sad to see how this company went from a good employer to an absolutely horrible one.
