Pluspunten
Compensation is great. I received a very healthy sign on bonus that was received on my first paycheck. I received RSU’s (stocks) that pay out at specific increments through the first few years of working with the company. There are also holiday bonus incentives as well.
Minpunten
As far as technology Woot is living in the dinosaur age. I was expecting software to be phenomenal at an Amazon company but that is not the case. Tasks that should take less than 10 minutes can take hours because the work is so manual. The promise of improved software is in the works but unfortunately I didn’t see it during my time at Woot. The manual work leads to a lot of human error which then leads to a lot of re-work. This is a small-ish company. So expect to be asked to take on small to large projects regularly on top of the workload you already don’t have time for. These projects are a big part of promotions and moving up within the company. It is openly discussed that employees are overworked but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of action to improve. There has been a lot of turn over lately which makes the task of lessening the load even more difficult. People regularly work long hours. Some of my coworkers were working 10-12 hour days. In order to keep up with the work load and meet the large goals expected from you it’s basically required to work long hours. The company is currently working from home and you regularly hear employees joke that it’s easy to work all the time so they just do… It’s difficult to log off and have an enjoyable evening or weekend because you know there is so much work left to do when you come back. The vendors don’t have the best attitudes and the company allows it because they need their product. So be prepared to potentially work with vendors that may treat you poorly. There is a 1 year commitment of employment or you will be required to return a prorated portion of your sign on bonus. There is also an 18 month no -compete to sign as well. This was the highest paying job I’ve ever had. If I could go back knowing what I know now I wouldn’t have accepted. If you need the money, have a lot of time to work, and can manage stress well this could be a good job for you.
