Pluspunten
The company sets clear expectations, and makes the job of denying workers' claims easy. We only need plug workers' names and personal information into the form letters that are already made for us. It is also very comforting to know that as long as we do what the company tells us to do, the company will support us. The decisions are always easy to make. Those concerning expensive entitlements are best decided by the manager, leaving me free to focus on inexpensive and inconsequential ones. Also, the medical adviser in my office is very helpful, always helping me with creative solutions for difficult claims. Salary and working conditions are excellent. I am treated like royalty by my manager. Together we are one of the top claims eradication teams in the organization. I feel well internally recognized for my performance and achievements related to difficult (large liability) cases.
Minpunten
It can be painful to deal with injured workers when they overdramatise their disappointments, such as the cessation of benefits. All claims must end and this reality can create real trauma for the case managers - who have to manage such communication to the injured worker. It cannot be WorkSafeBC's fault the worker loses their job for being injured, and it cannot be WorkSafeBC's fault the worker must lose their WCB benefits too. The employers who pay for all this would not be happy with us any more. It is also embarrassing to have to always tell workers a decision is mine, when really I am just the messenger, informing the worker what my manager "advises" me is the "correct" approach to dealing with expensive claims. The first denial was the hardest. The next ten were easier. And it gets easier every day. Seeing how easy it is to hurt innocent people in this manner makes me feel insecure. I wonder if anybody would stand up for me if I were ever hurt?
