Pluspunten

The salary matched the mean for the location. The benefits were good for a single person on up to a small family. Unlimited PTO. One day a week lunch is provided by the company. Free gym membership.

Minpunten

When I was hired at evestment I was told that the culture was right up there with Google and some of the top developer companies in the United States. I was told that it was a fun casual environment. From my perspective this was not the case. Alternatively, if you want to work for an extremely conservative buckled down company, evestment is the place for you. I will break down my review in sections... Culture: Conservative. Top down management approach. Management does not make it a point to get to know your name or you as a person. This makes you feel like a nameless drone. I've worked at other software companies that feel more like a family where even the CEO knows who you are. I prefer the latter. Conformity is key. If you’re the outlier then you’ll have problems. Process: Software is developed under the Agile veil but clearly not executed as such. You are told what they want and how they want it. If you are a creative person who enjoys solving problems in UX, algorithms and data, evestment is not for you. You are there to complete exactly the task they hand you and not to deviate from the script. The development process is clearly top down. To put it in industry terms, evestment is the polar opposite of groundbreaking companies like Valve. Career & Skills: I like to work in places that encourage you to advance your skills in your craft. After asking repeatedly if I could expense books, conferences or boot camps. I was told no. From my perspective, if you want to advance your skills you must do it on your own dime. I do this anyway but it’s always a nice gesture when the company you work for will provide the materials for you to make yourself a better engineer. They will however pay for certifications, but only after you pass. No hack-a-thons or outside social team building excursions. I feel these types of activities help build trust in your team as well as overall individual skills. Other Comments: Religion is injected into some meetings, which I found offensive and off-putting. From my short time at evestment it was very clear to me that their goal in the market is to buy a competitor, destroy it, lay off workers, raise their prices and become the monopoly in their niche`. For some this is acceptable and happens every day in the world. For me personally, I don’t want to work for a company like this, therefore I left.

Our senior management makes it a priority to know who everyone is on a first and last name basis and they are known for being accessible, transparent, and welcoming with all employees. They do have an expectation that employees will be high performers and those who are not will not last long. Because of this expectation of high performance, our culture also embraces playing hard and we typically offer at least one outing each month. In addition to the company wide outings, each department is given a team budget for their own team-building events of their choosing. Previous events have included Whirlyball, paintball, go-karting, Brew pub tours, golf, and major league sporting events. On Friday afternoons, it’s quite common to find the principal founders of eVestment relaxing with employees over a beer or shooting hoops at the basketball goal. Employees are each allocated $3,000 towards continuing education per year, after 6 months of employment. As is standard for most tuition reimbursements, employees are expected to be in good standing with the company and performing well and the education topic is expected to be job-related. In addition, 80% of tuition expenses are reimbursed up front and the company will reimburse the remaining 20% for successfully passing exams and obtaining high academic achievements. Employees have taken advantage of this program in pursuit of certifications such as the CFA, CAIA, MBA programs, PMP certifications, and many other industry topics. In the last two years, eVestment has made a total of five successful acquisitions; unfortunately these did result in layoffs due to the redundancy of some positions. The company does its best to be transparent during such times of change and we attempt to transition employees fairly with severance packages based upon tenure, Cobra continuation that is paid for by the company, and outplacement services to assist the displaced workers in returning to the workforce. Despite such times of change our voluntary attrition rate remains low, presently under 8% in our technology team. While the culture does favor conservative values (both fiscally and personally), we also embrace trust in the employees which brings a very high level of personal accountability. This is apparent through our unlimited paid time off policy, casual dress code and flexible work hours. Our core company values are: “Innovation; Excellence; Teamwork; Integrity; Focus; and Humility.” Employees are all expected to adhere to these values in their everyday work; alignment with these values is what has contributed to our company’s achievements of making multiple Top Atlanta Workplaces lists several years running. Most recently, we achieved #3 in the Small Business category for the Atlanta Journal & Constitution’s Top Workplaces award for 2013 (an award voted upon solely by employees in an independent and anonymous external survey). In addition to superior workplace awards multiple years running, adherence to our values has also brought unprecedented successes including a client renewal retention ratio well in excess of 95% and receiving a place on the Inc. 5000 list for five consecutive years. We are exceptionally proud of these achievements and we are incredibly grateful to those employees who have contributed to these milestones.

Pluspunten

nice office space, private gym for employees, mostly good culture that allows for bleeding edge tech and pushes big ideas and ownership as part of the culture. Lots of promoting from within occurs.

Minpunten

There has been a lot of turn over in recent years as leadership changed hands. There is a lot more red tape than there used to be on the technology side. Salary wont stay competitive with new hires coming in. Expect people several years your junior to make more than you, you will get a song and dance about how they can't fix that problem without a promotion. Even though you are likely already doing the job the promotion would require.
