Before the pandemic, there was little to no work from home policy and the office's location made commuting not great, but now have pivoted to 100% remote for the time being.
Unlimited/uncapped PTO is nice but at the same time can feel weird since the only guidance is "don't abuse it", and there is constant encouragement now to take time off but the feeling of guilt still lingers. Might just be my personal preference but the grey area seems to make it appear that people actually take less PTO than if they would have had actual allocated days. Perception is reality here, hopefully things can get back to normal after a return to the office.
Commonplace doublespeak about having a good work-life balance and taking time off while the best of the best and highly regarded contributors are those who are working consistently long hours(even during PTO/Mat/Pat leave). You can't have both. This seems to have become more apparent as now working from home is the norm and there is seemingly less boundary between home life and work life. This might not be unique to this company as this is an unprecedented time.
