I was contacted by HR for a Research & Development role at IbanFirst, and they sold me dreams about the technical challenges within the company. I went through the interviews, got accepted, and left my previous job to join them in three months.
Upon my arrival, I found out that the tech lead I interviewed with had left, along with another wave of employee departures. I was assigned to a different team that provided no training whatsoever and left me completely abandoned. They assigned me tasks that were not described, on software components I didn’t know. In most cases, tickets were poorly described because no one really knew what needed to be done.
The most the tech lead could do was give me contacts of people at another site who never responded on Teams. And even when they did respond, their answers were vague, imprecise, or directed me to public documents on the internet (note: I’m talking about business/domain knowledge, not general technologies you can find online).
The experience didn’t last long. After four months, they announced they were closing the branch, and employees on probation (including me) would only get one month of notice. When I left, HR told me: “Try to work better in your future career.” They also said that the tech lead claimed he had to fix my code in my merge requests. The funny part? I never even submitted any merge requests during those four months because I couldn’t figure out what they wanted. So honestly, I have no idea what he was talking about.
