Before you accept a position, get a clause in your stock options that they begin vesting immediately, because several employees were let go in the past 12 months, before they had time to vest. This is difficult if you assume that the stock options will actually happen when negotiating your salary. It is a startup, after all. Let the employee be wary! Be sure to have extremely clear communications from your manager about what is expected, because managers are extremely busy and knowing exactly what is wanted will be critical to your success. Do not make assumptions based on what was expected at prior jobs, npm is unique.
