The phone screen with the recruiter went well. I then had a video interview with the hiring manager. Company profits and plans to go public were the only real positives about the job that I gathered. I was immediately handed a list of “day one” tasks and given a vague explanation for the very short tenure of the only person who has been in this role. The conversation felt more like a warning about chaos and lack of structure than a pitch for the role or company.
I was later asked to create and present a PowerPoint to a group as a third interview, but I declined. After my earlier interview, I was already having doubts, and the task would have required many hours to complete. Their firm base salary for the role is not within current market range when considering all the responsibilities, and the vacation days for new employees aren’t competitive either. While this environment might suit some people, I felt there were too many red flags and I sensed it would be an easy role to burn out in. I was bummed because the role seemed so exciting on paper.
