After initial job application review of qualifications and job history, was sent immediately for drug test and DOT physical. Was told I needed to obtain tanker endorsement immediately and HAZMAT endorsement within 30 days of employment. Was sent to local terminal where I was to be based for physical endurance test of climbing and descending a ladder, standing on top of a high platform. and carrying or lifting various weights. I was then scheduled for classroom HAZMAT training and testing at the same facility. After passing all tests, I was scheduled for OTJ training with an experienced driver trainer to learn the specific functions of my job for one week. People were generally friendly, some dispatchers were somewhat power trippers who delighted in denying requests for time off or advising you on what you could get fired for, even if it was just a question about a particular situation. It was somewhat of a kindergarten atmosphere and mentality. Other drivers would routinely state how they never worked for a company that hired people just so they could find ways to fire them, I somewhat agree with that assessment!
