Got a call from HR regarding an opening. She scheduled an interview at the company. I got there on time, but couldn't do the interview due to a family medical emergency. HR was wonderful and I left immediately. Once the emergency situation was resolved, she scheduled another appointment. That day, the 'resolved' family emergency became serious that I had to again cancel. She still waited and since I had to deal with a tragic situation, I excused myself from being considered. She understood and that was it.
A few weeks later she called me up again and was very courteous. She then told me if I was still interested, the position was still open. Since I was recovering, I decided to give it a shot. This time, everything worked out fine. So finally, interview time. Two gentlemen interviewed me. They were extremely nice and great people to talk to. Soft spoken, highly intelligent, totally professional. Questions were pretty standard ones. Somehow, I was mentally absent. A former senior person at that division was known to me through other acquaintances and to put it bluntly, I didn't agree with some of his ideas and attitude. So, when I realized I was gonna go to the division where he did immense work, I was a bit apprehensive. He has done a fantastic job, no doubt. But I cannot be comfortable working with him. The HR was surprised when I told her about her former collleague. She told me than that he was gone and I don't have to think about it.
I asked the interview panel and to my shock, I was told that the gentleman in question had merely gone on a sabbatical and will be back soon. I lost interest right then. Also, based on their requirements, technical skills mattered the most. So, I was projecting a technically vacant scenario. That was it, interview got over and I was happy. Knew for sure that I would be gone.
As expected, no offer. I was weirdly happy. Coz the prospect of working for the gentleman in question was uninteresting.
