Company conducted a series of 2-hour phone interviews. All were very constructive and intelligent. The final interview was in-person with the VP of Professional Services. He clearly didn't know how to interview effectively - asking canned questions like "what are your strengths/weaknesses", etc. Despite excellent feedback throughout the entire phone interview process, the final in-person interview didn't result in an offer. I attribute this to the VP asking ineffective questions, not probing for character strengths or results, and making emotional decisions based on something other than job qualifications (or incorrect assumptions). I have been interviewing senior managers, directors, sales reps, and engineers for 15 years - and the VP clearly was lacking in interview skills. Unfortunately, poor questioning has the potential to weed out excellent candidates. I suspect that this company and/or the Professional Services group has a lackluster collection of talent given its limited recruiting and on-boarding capabilities. Believe it or not, the courting process took six months.
