For decades, the KRAS gene was considered “undruggable”. Christopher helped changed that through his decades of experience in crystallizing and visualizing proteins. His research led to a remarkable opportunity in 2013, when he joined a new effort to re-examine a common, cancer-driving mutation in KRAS. After solving over a hundred covalent KRAS structures, Christopher made a key discovery in “the cryptic pocket.” This moment opened a pathway to design potent, stable inhibitors that could halt the KRAS mutation.
