M-SHORAD Increment 1 has a new name! The U.S. Army announced that its Maneuver Short Range Air Defense capability will be called the Sgt Stout, in honor of Mitchell W. Stout, who was killed in action while shielding his fellow Soldiers from a grenade in Vietnam. He is the only Air Defender ever to earn the Medal of Honor. The Sgt Stout M-SHORAD system integrates air defense capabilities onto a Stryker A1 armored vehicle. It is designed to defeat uncrewed aerial systems and fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
