On Tuesday, MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel visited GHS to tour its upcoming Crisis Stabilization Unit and discuss how the state is continuing its commitment to ensuring Michigan families can access the services they need and at the appropriate service level. In the spring of 2025, GHS will open an Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). CSUs provide immediate assessment and support to anyone in a behavioral health crisis for up to 72 hours.
Genesee Health System and community partners held a panel discussion in Flint on Friday, Nov. 22, as part of its Pillars of Hope. Dexter Clarke, the Director of Genesee Health System Faith-Based and Community Engagement Initiatives, said despite the smaller crowd, it made a big impact.
GHS was the proud sponsor of the Bountiful Love Ministries Church of God In Christ Community Thanksgiving Dinner and Usmo Strong warm attire giveaway for kids 0 to 17. • Over 150 dinners were delivered to shelters, the YMCA, group homes, and a neighboring mobile home community • Over 80 people had dinner in the church fellowship hall • GHS sponsorship for USMO Strong supported almost 350 children with warm attire over three locations

In a significant step toward addressing youth mental health, Genesee Health System (GHS) and Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) have launched the Hope Squad, a peer-to-peer suicide prevention training program aimed at empowering students to support one another.
The Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Rachel Levine, visited Genesee Health System to hold a round able on youth mental health.
The ‘U-Care’ Program by Genesee Health System provides immediate support to youth experiencing mental health crises in schools. As Carrie Chanter, Director of Prevention, Health, and Wellness, explains, "Schools have the option of picking between four different service options. One of them is called U-Care... [a] mobile crisis response team that is dispatched within 60 minutes of a call from a school."
Today is the 20th Anniversary for Walk A Mile in My Shoes event at the State Capitol in Lansing. The GHS Legacy Center every year brings consumers together to bring awareness about the resources and needs for mental health.
