At this year's Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, we were excited to nominate and recognize Alex Curry with an Outstanding Community Volunteer award! Alex is an absolute rockstar volunteer at Hope Studios and has been volunteering up to 40 hours every week for nearly two years now. From organizing the Gallery to attending Studio events to collaborating with artists to assisting with sales during weekend events—Alex has done it all. They have built connections, learned job skills, and become a part of our Art Studio team. We’re so grateful for everything Alex brings to the Studio and to the community, and this luncheon was a perfect opportunity to say THANK YOU!

So many of our employees have reached major anniversaries lately, and we’re honored to celebrate yet another! Patricia Satterfield recently reached her 20-year anniversary with Hope! Over the years, Patricia has worn many hats, from a DSP to Lead DSP, Intensive Supports Associate, Community Support Supervisor, and now, as our Quality Supports Specialist, where she gets to apply her passion for advocacy, mentorship, and promoting standards of excellence in services. When asked what keeps her at Hope, Patricia shared that it’s all about the connections and relationships she’s made. She finds the most joy in helping the people we support advocate for themselves and teaching staff how to do the same. Outside of work, Patricia spends time with her husband of 27 years, her two wonderful adult children, and her fur kiddos—a dog, four cats, and a small parrot. She enjoys fishing, doing yard work, a variety of crafts, and restoring furniture. Patricia, thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for Hope!

🌟 Congratulations to Momodou! 🌟 We are so thrilled and honored to share that Momodou "Mo" Mboob has been awarded the 2025 Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Severe Mental Health Illness, presented to him at last week's Full Lives Conference! Mo leads Hope's team in Utqiaġvik as the Mental Health Resident Manager, and has been with Hope since 2013. He’s more than a provider—he’s a pillar in his community and he brings compassion, advocacy, and respect to the people he supports every day. During his heartfelt acceptance speech, Mo reminded us that, “We all have a moral responsibility to bring mental illness out of the shadow. Recovery is possible. Seeking treatment is a sign of strength, not weakness.” Mo’s leadership and tireless advocacy have created meaningful change, not just for those he serves, but for everyone lucky enough to know him. Hope and the world—and especially Utqiaġvik—are better because of him! Please join us in celebrating Mo and his commitment to Alaskans with mental health challenges.

Zack Gottsagen, the star of The Peanut Butter Falcon, paid a very special visit to our Discovery Center and Art Studio this week! He was joined by his parents and staff from the Trust Training Collaborative, who are presenting at next week’s Full Lives Conference—where Zack will be delivering the keynote speech. We’re all a little starstruck! Zack made a lasting impression on everyone here. It was truly an honor to meet him and share more about Hope and our community with him. As a special thank you, our Hope Studio artists presented him with a handmade bird art piece.

Last month marked a huge milestone for one of our Kodiak employees, Eliseo "Lando" Ramos – 20 years at Hope! Lando will always greet you with a smile and a joke. Nothing is a problem, and he often says, "I will never say no to you." He has spent a lot of time one-on-one with a couple of support recipients and worked nearly 19 years with the same person. He supports our folks well, ensuring that the goals and objectives are being worked on and that he is doing right by them by diligently working on their goals so that they can become successful in their lives. When asked what keeps him at Hope, Lando says he stays because of the meaningful work, growth opportunities, and the supportive culture. When he’s not at work, he enjoys swimming, cooking, gardening, hiking, and spending time with his family, including his three adult sons. Lando, your hard work, positivity, and commitment to the people you support make a lasting impact. Thank you for dedicating 20 years at Hope!
