Davey is excited to be kicking off another TREEmendous "Swing for the Trees" season. Together, Davey and the Guardians have pledged to plant one tree in Cleveland for every home run hit by a Guardians player. This means that more home runs ⚾ = more 🌳's for Cleveland's tree canopy.
Michigan Technological University's College of Natural Resources and Environmental Science, in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, hosted a week-long Student Experiences in Educational Discovery (SEED) program. Davey was proud to help sponsor this program. Each day, seventh to 11th-grade students from Detroit Public Schools came to the Milliken State Park on the shores of the Detroit River, just east of downtown Detroit. Students rotated between stations that focused on professions in natural resources. These stations included urban water management, urban soils, remote sensing, wildlife management, and urban forestry, which was taught by RJ Laverne, manager of education and training, Davey Institute.
Triples ⚾ = Trees 🌳! Davey is proud to team up with the Detroit Tigers for the "Triples for Trees" program. Through this program, Davey and the Tigers have agreed to plant three trees in the greater Detroit region for every triple, or three-base hit, made by a Tigers player in a regular-season home and away game during the entire 2025 regular season. A minimum of 100 trees will be planted. The "Triples for Trees" program aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Detroit Tree Equity Partnership and its goal to plant 75,000 trees by 2027. Davey employees and Tigers personnel will work with The Greening of Detroit to plant the awarded trees after the end of the season. Tree planting dates and locations will be announced later this year.

We’re putting a spotlight on Davey employees who are Living Our Values! Today, we’re featuring Jessica McCarthy, sales arborist, South Chicago office, for exemplifying our stewardship value. At Davey, the core value of stewardship is not just about how we care for the environment, but also about engaging with and caring for our communities. It’s one of the things that makes Jessica proud to be an employee-owner. Jessica recently shared her passion for arboriculture with young girls at a Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana event. Engaging 50 Girl Scouts and their parents, she led a limb walking station that simulated the work of an arborist while climbing a tree. She also taught them basic lessons in tree anatomy using cross-sections from tree logs. “I think it’s important to educate the community and bring awareness to arboriculture because many people don't know what it is, and that there is an entire industry centered around taking care of trees,” Jessica said. “Everyone can relate to loving a particular tree or nature in general, and there are many career paths to explore.”
